Golf

Ok fellow small ball fans, its time for the what many would consider the weakest of the majors. After a long, and at times fierce negoitiation, Drofder Enterprises has signed over the rights to MDJ Azz Holding INC Co Ltd NL to run this 2nd major of the year, the aptly named "So What" cup.

A little history on the PGA champs -

The PGA Chamionship started in 1916, and was played as a match play event from 1916-1957 and stroke play since 1958.
Southern Hills is hosting for the 5th time, Tiger won when last here in 2007 shooting -8. Winning scores have been -1, -8, -11,-8
Names such as Dow Finsterwald, Denny Shute, Olin Dutra and Walter Burkemo hjave won the event so don't ignore the likes of Nic Ishee, Adri Arnaus or Laurie "i'll win in a" Canter.

There was a muted rule change that received overwhelming support, but as broadcasters don't like taking risks we will stick with what we know. Feedback is encouraged and welcomed but ultimately ignored.

Select 6 golfers totalling no more than 300 points from the attached list. The winner will be the entrant with the lowest combined score for their 6 players. In the case where the cut is missed or the player withdraws, the player will receive a score of the field average +2 strokes for the final rounds. I will go through the list and make sure all entrants are actually playing and notify you if there are any late changes. Edit - DeChambles is out

The winning prize is yet to be determined.

Entries close before the first ball is struck at 10pm AEST.

Long John Daly hits his drive 344 yards on the 1st, his 2nd, 1 yard from the hole for a birdie.

Jeez its a tough back nine. Herbie doing well, hope he can hold it together the last few holes.

Will post a leaderboard later today, suffice to say that freed from the burden of running the tournament Red has produced a sub-par round!

How far are they hitting it nowadays!

Rory - average driving distance for the day - 374 Yds

Other notables

Rahm - 392
Fox - 385
Burmester - 384
Schwartzel - 380
Woo Lee - 379

Perhaps a high percentage of driving holes were downwind/hill?

They were. Plus a number of elevated tees.

How pathetic is the Kayo coverage?

Started the feature groups last night with the wrong stream on, spent 20 minutes waiting for Bubba, Rose and Reed to hit off and then halfway down the first hole abruptly jumps to the advertised group of Smith, Hovland and Zalatoris who are now three holes in.

Then this morning coverage stops while play is still going with Herbert having 4 or 5 to go, instead of picking up the ESPN+ coverage we get an hour of fill for some reason before live at the PGA starts.

The coverage is just awful. Poor commentary and camera work generating no atmosphere from the parts I watched.

But I've never got as into the PGA Champs as much as the other majors.

Well the first rd is one and done. And we have not one but two entrants under par. Despite his top pick faltering angle ankle has nailed his other selections and leads the way at -3. Redford, playing without the stress of running the show, is -1. Masters winner Tenacious obviously over-celebrated and bombed the fiirst round with a +14. There are a range of scores in between but bringing up the rear with a grand total of +15 is STC - you have been let down badly by your bottom 3. I note Redford nailed his bottom 3, a combined -3.

LEADERBOARD
-3 : angle ankle
-1 : Redford
+3 : The Big Richo
+4 : MD Jazz
+6 : Sammy COugar
+8 : Tigerman
+10: Mopsy
+14: Tenacious
+15: Scotty

Will be intersting to see how many entrants can get through the cut with at least 5 of their 6 selections intact.

I'll post the table, please check I haven't made any errors.
