How to do a HTML table in a post. ?

I wonder if someone can help me with a how to use-a-table-in-a-post step by step. I've had a couple of tries but I can't get it right.

Insert table
Insert table row
Insert table column

These are the three keys.

Suppose I want to tabulate-

1 4 7
2 5 8
3 6 9

How do I do that? Can anybody help me, please?

BTW I reckon many of us want to use tables but can't do the HTML thing. This little thread can be the explanation next time somebody wants to know. Am I pitching hard enough here? ;D

Hey Captain,

This is what i have been doing when posting the Dream Team ladder... It looks a lot less combersome than the SMF version (i looked using help):

The way I do it is:
- copy the stuff to word as unformatted text
- format to Courier New (I don't have Courier either)
- Use the space bar to set the column spaces (don't tab across)
- Copy to here
- Highlight all text "here" and hit the red A above
- change verdana(?) to courier

it looks like this:

I've not seen a table in the format I mention. I guess nobody knows how to do one.

The reason why we have not seen it on PRE (an probably never will) is that it is too difficult...

I've never really tried to work out the table function Dyer so asked the tech support guys.....It's clear as mud to me.

I worked out your table by typing

147
258
369

Then highlight the lot and click the table button

Then highlight the rows one by one. Ie Highlight 147 and click the insert table row button

Then highlight each number one at a time and click the insert table column button

I think if you click quote on this postt you can see how I did it.

1	4	7
2	5	8
3	6	9

Another way is to type the info in between [ tt] [ /tt] (without the spaces)

Thanks for the help NYT and Rosy. I got everything I needed. I'll probably go with the courier in word system for now. I mightn try just one spreadsheet, for the hell of it.

This seems to work OK

It was done by using the 'Insert table' button, then the Insert table row, followed
by the Insert table column for each entry.

Each row should start with [tr] and end with a [/tr]
Each item in the columns of the row should start with a [td] and end with a [/td]

Interesting tester....I checked how you did it and you have no spaces. I was leaving spaces between each entry in the line and it wasn't coming out in neat columns.

Td you need to put the tables inside the tables

Click the left Table button

[ table ][/table]

Then between that click the middle Insert Table Row button

[ table]

[ tr][/tr]

[ /table]

Then between the "tr" 's click the right Insert Table Column button

[ table]
