MLB 2023

Gee I tell you what Houston, there’s still a few people suggesting Valdez is a bit dodgy. After every pitch he goes to his left temple and the back of his neck. A few commentators (Boston ones admittedly) brought it up again the other day.

Good luck in the WS !
Yeah, the umpires check hats and other bits and pieces at the end of innings now but yes all this sticky stuff the pitchers use and RPMs is very suss. Gerrit Cole dramatically improved when at Houston and now has 300 million is his pocket at the Yanks based on what the did at the Astros. Not that that helped him versus your Redsox a week or so ago. Trevor Bauer (not that you would trust that bloke) basically admitted that many pitchers use the sticky stuff to help.

I support Houston as well, although it is largely because of Altuve.
Jose (and Correa) gets most of the hate from the opposition fans...maybe because he won the batting title that year. Yuli Gurriel is my favourite although I reckon Alverez and Tucker will end up the best two batters in the team pretty soon.

Altuve just makes things happen most times, whether it’s with the bat or at 2nd base. Also have a lot of time for Gurriel.

Yeah that’s right. No co incidence that when the umpires started checking hats etc in between innings this year, Cole’s (and others) ERA’s all plummeted.

What is it with all you Astros. Have a read about Mike “Scuff” Scott and what he got up to in 1986. Nolan Ryan was also one of the all time great spitballers apparently too. Bloody Astros !!!

Yeah, can't defend them too much...just have to hope the current team is no longer cheating. What I will say though is MLB over the years has been just as bad the the Tour de France with all sorts of ways of cheating. Hall of famers like Roger Clemens, Andy Pettit, A-Rod...and what about Barry Bonds. I reckon most teams have had methods of cheating over the years but the Astros got caught most recently...Gee I sound like an Essendon supporter now...Sorry!

Littered with offenders. Corky Sosa, McGwire, Canseco… heaps.

interesting thing is they did a RPM comparison for Buelher between when he was using the sticky stuff and when he wasn't. His spin rate is actually better without it, go figure...
But anyway we are in a bit of trouble here. I sort of knew with the 2 consecutuve walk off losses to start the series it would be tough. But here's hoping

Apparently when the ball is new, it’s tackier and you can impart spin on it better than when it’s used and has dirt etc on it. So it’s quite possible if you’re being measured using a new ball. That’s what they were saying about Valdez anyway. He only touches his left temple when he’s using a used ball. Who knows.

they should've gone with him to start with
But if you can't score a run with no outs runners on 2nd and 3rd it's difficult
esp now trienen is out

think it's over
Time running out for the Dodgers.

You know how they got the name Dodgers? When they were originally the Brooklyn Dodgers and before they moved, Brooklyn had a lot of trams and cable cars before the subways came into effect. If you lived in Brooklyn you were known as a “dodger” cuz you were most likely dodging trams if you lived there in the early 1900’s.

Bit of useless information, but anyway.

Injuries at the wrong time for LA.

Going for the Braves. Have friends in Atlanta. Can’t see them beating Houston however. You never know I guess but just see Houston maybe being a bit stronger overall.

Commentators jinxing Javier with all this talking up, and then the Braves hit 2 homers. Big chance to lead 3-1 now in the World Series.

Cmon Braves. (Alvarez is the most hopeless left fielder - how many times can he mis judge the ball in the post season with one f up after another.)
