In 2004 we used our pick 1 (priority pick) to pick Brett Deledio, 14 years later we traded Brett to Gws for Geelongs 2017 1st round pick and a 3 round pick GWS

In 2017 we traded that pick 15 (tied to Geelong's position) and GWS's pick 53 to Brisbane for picks 20 and 25.

We then pick up CCJ and Balta with those picks.

In 2021 we trade CCJ to North for their 2022 2nd round pick.

So not only do we have another 10 or more years of Balta to enjoy there is the prospect of another good player with next years pick.

So we are looking at the prospect of still enjoying the fruits if that pick 1 2004 in 2032.

This makes up for some of the 1st round stuff ups around the same time.

Hopefully the Roos 2022 2nd rounder is pick #19. That could be a massive win for us.

That's a really interesting exercise you've come up with @yandb

Be fascinating to see which pick has lasted longest, played most games etc.....
As we approach the start of the season.... and questions like this and many others will most likely go unanswered, the statistical wonder world in which @LeeToRainesToRoach rotated around this site will always be missed.
A part of his legacy, as I have just found..... Who's the first person you think of when someone asks for a stat?
Nice way to be remembered I reckon.

Nothing will ever beat Melbourne's gift that still keeps on giving.

Shouldve picked Oscar Allen.
Coleman Jones reminded me too much of Griffens

“Griffens” got concussed too many times. We were forced to go small in the FWD line because Elton was a dud. Won a flag.
Exactly Griffens Elton and Vickery are champions. If they stayed we would be still waiting to win a flag.
Griffens walking, Vickery leaving and Elton being no good. Forced Hardwick to play Jack surrounded by Rioli, Castagna and Bulter, with Caddy and then Towner.
It wouldve been interesting to see what wouldve happened if we lost to WC at the G because that was the game, Hardwick and Co decided to stick with that combination.

What Balta has achieved already - a premiership player - has already made that deal a mighty success for us regardless of what Balta goes on to deliver or what we get from lolnorf second rounder.

Happy days when deals work

Special mention to the Tyrone Vickery free agency compensation pick (29) that landed us Shai..

That's why I'm big when it comes to player's wanting to leave, let them go. It's not the end of the world.
We have proven that losing a senior player or players dosent mean the will be bottom 4 or we will fall in a heap.
We copped it when we lost Ottens, the compensation was good but we just missed on using the picks. 4 picks in the top 20 shouldve got us 2 A graders.
Deledio got us Prestia and Caddy when he walked in 2016.
Coleman Jones got us a pick between 19-20 in this year's draft.
That's quality.
Who said the AFL are fksticks? They gave us pick 29 and we used it on Bolton.
That's Gold.
