Retirements 2020

My favourite bit is when McKenna kicks it to himself like he's still playing Gaelic. Real WTF? moments.:))

There’s another great clip I seem to remember - possibly a Geelong Irishman? - who was running full bore to a ball on the ground and instead of bending down to pick it up in his hand did some sort of toe poke and flicked it up into his hands and kept running.
Might have been a preseason game?
But it looked magic

Matthew Kruezer looks likely to announce his retirement today.

Cruelled by injury.

Cotchin vs Kruezer ‘ The Cup’. Thank you.

His dive into footy oblivion was ruthless

Got Josh Frasered did Kreuzer, expected to carry the load from the start too much of a physical strain cut his career short by probably 50 games.

Top performer for the Blues one of the few at Carlton I respect.

Bryce Gibbs ......should've stayed at the Blues would still be playing regular first 22 footy.

And the Crows giving up 2 first rounders for him - ouch.

All because they thought that he was the missing link after 2017.
Surely after he ( 35 games) and Deledio (32 games) the era of trading away good draft picks for 29 yr olds is over.

Jack Steven will be another bust (even though he only cost pick 58)

You'd think so but there'll always be a club out there that think a 29 year old star out there is the missing piece of the puzzle and will pay overs.

Ben Stratton and Paul Puopolo. Damn, was hoping Hawthorn were going to keep their dud ageing list into next year.

what happened to him? did he go back to Adelaide and get on the bong ..?
I always thought he was "a good, ordinary footballer" as JD would say.

Wasn't very good in the midfield so the scum played him at HBF and he got heaps of it, mainly because it was always down there. Made him look good.

Crows seemed to think he was going to boost their midfield. Don't know why. Didn't get a lot of it and his disposal was ordinary.

But they hang onto 92 year old Burgoyne just so he can get to 400 games.

Gibbs, a highly gifted yet laconic type of player who ended up being sheltered in defense instead of plying his trade as a full time midfielder where he could have made the most of his talent. Reminds me of our own Joel Bowden in that regard.

As others have said, his fall from grace has been spectacular. Makes me wonder if there was any truth to some of the sordid rumors floating around in recent years.

Wonder if it was Stratton's call? Odd for a captain to jump. If it is his call it shows he doesn't have the stomach for a rebuild.

Was he ever any better than just a good solid defender?

I always liked and admired the way Puopolo went about it, but he's been ineffective for a while now.

Few Hawk fans i know were saying Stratton was done, lucky not to have been dropped a few weeks back, may have been managed..

Joel is the most underrated player in modern Richmond history. Played as a very undersized CHB on many of the games best CHF and rarely disgraced himself.

Yeah, my favourite player of that era. Never stepped up to be the no. 1 gun mid that we hoped, but had a great career as a CHB who also could run and distribute. Remember him winning a game with almost the last kick of the game at the Docklands, Hawthorn or the Dogs maybe? And of course the rushing the ball for points incident which led to the rule change.

Smart player.

Not to mention the Docklands Duet he performed with his brother to put the Cows away.
