The Geelong Cants

Incredibly low act by Geelong. Why would any medical professional join them now?

We are witnessing the beginning of the end of this culture that has existed for two decades.
This is incredible. I'm a bit stunned. To pass the buck to the docs so cynically, and they would have to be in close communications with the league right? This cannot stand, or as the story said, that would be the end of club doctors, which can't happen.

More clear evidence of the League's head-in-the-sand, schitzophrenic approach to concussion.

Their culture has been bad or deteriorating steadily since Scott was appointed. The club might have been successful, but the culture is bad. Companies with toxic cultures can still make big profits, at least for a while.

Seems a good argument for the AFL to have independent doctors for concussion. Absolute laggards - the conflict of interest is so mind staggeringly obvious. Just copy other sporting codes.

NFL - An Independent Neurological Consultant (INC) is a doctor hired by the NFL and NFLPA to ensure an independent medical opinion is given before a player can return to the field after a concussion
NRL - n the NRL's concussion protocol, an independent doctor is located in the league's central bunker and has the power to order a player to be removed from the field for a head injury assessment, even if the club doctor disagrees. This system, which was implemented to reduce the risk of missed concussions, gives the independent doctor the final say on certain severe "Category 1" incidents based on signs like unconsciousness, impact seizures, or a vacant look.
Rugby Union - in World Rugby, an independent doctor or Independent Concussion Consultant (ICC) is a key part of the concussion protocol, especially in elite rugby. They provide an independent medical opinion and have the final say on a player's return to play. The team doctor conducts the initial off-field assessment, but the independent doctor must be consulted for return-to-play decisions, particularly for players with high-risk factors

Geelong seem to have form in this area to my memory. Stewart probably the first time I can remember them following the rules. But then again you tend to have confirmation bias.

Dont get me wrong, I'd love nothing more than for Geelong to wallow at the bottom of the ladder for the next 30 years. Can't stand everything about that putrid, corrupt organisation.

But. The defence is handled by workcover insurers and lawyers appointed by or approved by the insurers. It is their call who to join as parties to the proceeding. The insured really doesnt have much of a say in the matter.

This is true. It becomes their proceedings as they will be putting hand in pocket and not Geelong…this is really an AFL failure

Love it.

I bet if the Scats won the 2020 GF the Geelong media conglomerate would have praised it as the greatest GF ever considering the pandemic.

Forget about Geelong’s sooking. That was the game that showed the world how good Dusty really was.

In a game where one team kicked 12 goals and the other kicked 7, he kicked four by himself. And let’s not forget that Dusty played midfield, his primary job was not to kick the goals, he just did it anyway.

The four goals were, in order, the goal that started the comeback after and early Geelong lead, the goal that put his team in front during the third quarter, the goal that sealed the win in the final quarter…..and…….the goal that put the cherry on top!

And it was the best goal kicked all year by anyone.

Dusty was clutch in that game. Not just regular clutch, Michael Jordan, Shane Warne,Pele clutch.
