Twitter link ban?

It's voluntary to come here.

Plenty of others seem to be able to enjoy their time without having the need to post links to X. The world isn't going to stop. Neither will PRE.
So why block it? The world’s not going to stop with the highly infrequent links to X posted on here either.

It’s voluntary to come here, but it’s clearly not voluntary to post with freedom.

The question has already been answered, at least a couple of times, above.

There was a few informative quick Twitter links posted yesterday in the game thread about Lalor, the video of incident and injury update
You want to ban that?
Even the Richmond Football Club haven’t banned it.
What a futile, immature and bias decision.

Twitter X just banned Blair Cottrell and Thomas Sewell a few weeks back - Nazis banned by a Nazi’s organisation , odd.

There's not going to be a running commentary on this.

X was obliged to respond for their reputation (what's left), commercially.
Did they ban all of Sewell's followers, including those displaying swastikas and nazi salutes on the pages? No.
Have they implemented any forms of content management to stop extremist behaviour (not just naziism)? No.

Deakin University associate professor Josh Roose, who studies political violence, said the removal of a host of accounts suggested a move with the involvement of the Australian government, which earlier this week announced sanctions on Terrorgram, an online network that uses encrypted platforms to share white supremacist content.

“It looks like the Australian government is becoming more agile and active in targeting the extremist right online,” Roose said, adding that neo-Nazis had used X to greatly increase their reach by commenting on the posts of news outlets, politicians and journalists.

“It’s a significant development that suggests a co-ordinated effort likely with the Australian government on board.”

“[The extreme right] have really enjoyed this platform and the wider audience it has allowed them to build.”

The decision has been made. Mr T is implementing things from the code base to try help enforce, we mods will address inthe interim. You dont have to like the decision, but it is the decision. PS: Insulting us and those who've suggested the change, (as earlier in the thread) won't reverse the decision either.

We live in an information age, and if you can't find the same types of info from other sources (club website, Facebook, etc), you're not looking hard enough.

The issue as I see it is the club are using Twitter to post news and information about the club. It's often first on Twitter from what I can see.

If we're restricted from posting the club's own breaking news, PRE and the members are poorer for it.

But while Mr T is still having to use his own money to keep PRE up and running, I'm not going to complain or throw a hissy fit. We'll survive.

The decision is fueled by political bias. We are all adults and overall, very respectful here.

So I will look harder, and I'll look for another Richmond chat site as well - signing off, sayonara

No, I don't think it is. If it was purely political bias links to Trumps Truth Social would be blocked, as would be links to other hardcore extreme rightwing news organisations.

This is about Musk supporting hate speech, which isn't political.

It's not from a political bias, that's a very immature approach to the topic. I don't care which side of politics does this, or whom. It's not acceptable.

You've heard of sanctions right? Sanctions are meant to limit ability to generate revenue or cause some form of disruption. There's a few (Google it) places protesting about Elon Musk companies. From folks disposing of their Teslas to boycotting Twitter.

This was raised in the admin section and we were unanimous that Musk and his behaviour was something we don't support. If he sold X and I dunno, Michael Jordan bought it and reinstated their fact checking and tried to proactive deal with the extremists, we'd likely review and lift the ban.

On a personal level, if you've ever gone to visit Auschwitz/Birkenau, or Dachau, or the ghettos in Krakow, visited Anne Frank's house, Schindler's factory, you might be a little less lenient with your view on Racial Hatred/Nazism.

I have a mixed race family (I'm mostly Anglo, my wife is not). We have been in the CBD and had a bunch of neo nazis walk past, and the fear it put into my family was tangible. I was immediately on my guard as they approached. If you live through those experiences, you actually give a *smile* about these types of things.

So whine about not being able link to X all you like. Support someone who throws nazi salutes out for fun. But realise there's probably some bigger things at play in society than sharing football news via the only place you prefer to.

If it was this serious, don't you think the whole media would not use it?? Doubt Musk is going to cry with an AFL team's forum banning it.

Why would they, current day mainstream media is hideously compromised ethically and beholden to their billionaire owners. I'll just add that many online forums I know of are doing exactly what PRE are doing.

I doubt that as well. But if we all just roll-over because my little bit doesn't count, then no one does anything.

Time to move on.

You point out the ones where the owner gives nazi salutes, and I'm sure we'll ban them.

Lol he didn't give a nazi salute

This is what he said when he put his hand on his chest and then put his arm out.

At Monday's event, Musk thanked the crowd for "making it happen", before placing his right hand over his heart and then thrusting the same arm out into air straight ahead of him.

"My heart goes out to you. It is thanks to you that the future of civilisation is assured," the 53-year-old said, after giving the second one-armed salute.

You guys are entering dangerous ground here. Bringing politics into this site is pretty crap. When we put links here from X they are footy related. Whether you like or dislike Musk, trump etc It shouldn't sway you to stop footy-related links being posted here.

When Jack Dorsey owned Twitter it too was a mess with misinformation running ripe. How about Facebook and its dubious fact-checkers which are now banished if you heard Zuckerberg they went over the top with their moderating especially on the right.

Anyway, would've missed this thread if it wasn't for a PM I got cause i posted jagga smiths injury from X link

Imo footy-related links should not be banned. So are you guys saying we can't post Richmond FC links from X

Totally agree on this comment, and sometimes there's news or someone's comment that's not shown anywhere else that we want to highlight for reading and/or opinion.

We disagree.

Steve Bannon doubling down on it yesterday makes it more disturbing. It doesn't look accidental or
ambiguous anymore. It personally wouldn't matter which side of politics did this, I'd still find it reprehensible.

Appreciate the feedback, it's been done in a respectful way, even when folks have disagreed with the decision.
However, the decision still stands though.
