One of the most obvious things he does that hardwick loves.
He gets the ball, gives the ball then continues to run.

Glimpses of Cotchin: hardness, fierce tackling, creative hands, team player, good user, kicks well either side, picks good options, doesn't try to kick the cover off it unnecessarily.

Anyone know where to find his speed/agility etc data?

Don't know about speed, (doesn't look like he is super quick), but he finished 9th in the 2km time trial in 6.16, (**Note: this is not far off the previous time trial record of 6.06)

Simon Black, just a smidge.

No smidge about it. Very Simon Black like in his movement. That highlights reel was brilliant. Had everything. Kicking on left and right. Gets the ball inside and outside. Lots of crunching tackles. 4 games for the Lions Academy of 30, 32, 33 and 37 disposals. Very impressive pick by the looks.

This part of his game will put him in good stead. 185 cm and 83 kilos. Apparently put on 10 kilos this year. Hard worker. Right attitude.

Martyn’s strengths of consistency and accumulation really came to the fore during his NAB League cameo with the Lions Academy, averaging 28.8 disposals, 7.2 marks, and 4.6 marks over five games and racking up over 30 disposals in four of those outings. His numbers were not quite the same during the national championships – as is the case for many prospects – but his range of 13-16 over all four appearances in less of a permanent midfield role still stood up. A good number of Martyn’s disposals come on the spread too, with his sound endurance (21.2 yo-yo, 6 minute/16 second 2km) allowing him to provide an option around the ground. It shows in his 68.3 per cent uncontested possession rate and 7.2 marks per NAB League game, often working back to help out the defence and floating forward to try and have a say inside 50. That kind of work rate and willingness carry a side on his back points towards his leadership – on top of the obvious captain tag – while also proving to be durable given he played almost every game he was available for early on.

Thanks! Where did you find this TL?

In that footage he looks like he rarely kicks through the ball... seems to settle for mid range stabs. looks a bit one paced too, not quick. But its a small highlights reel so who knows really. Like the contested numbers and that he continues to follow up his possessions to get on the chain again.

Yes, was speaking to a couple of Lion fans and they thought it was strange we picked him up.
They didn't think he has what it takes for AFL.

I spoke to a couple of Lions fans who were livid. I guess it depends on which fans you speak to.

Thought he lacks some penetration in his kicking.

Didn't see a problem with it all. Very good kicking style and seemed to easily pass it 35-40 metres without any effort. I liked that he was finding targets rather than bombing it long. Shot at goal was from 40 metres and sailed through easily.
