RIP Kobe Bryant.

Killed in a helicopter crash.

What a legend.
Turned the TV on this morning to watch the Pro Bowl only to see this terrible news.

RIP Kobe. Just can't believe how these things happen.

So far, it seems like the helicopter was overloaded with too many people.

Unbelievably sad. Totally flawed as a human, cut his parents and sisters off financially years ago but I can't think of another athlete that was more dedicated to their craft. Utter manic. Maybe the most fascinating athlete of the modern era. This hurts.

The helicopter can take 11 to 12 people so wasn't overloaded. Sounding more like weather and pilot error

R.I.P Holden, with the news GM will stop manufacturing RHD cars.
Unfortunately it seems it was only a matter of time. GM had already pulled out of much larger RHD markets such as the UK, India and South Africa. The only markets left were Australia, NZ and Thailand; not worth the investment.

The GFC nearly destroyed GM. They only survived via massive government bail out and they have struggled to recover. This was always going to happen as GM has to consolidate its operations to LHD markets. Arch rival Ford is more fortunate in that they seem to have products that sell strongly in key RHD markets (Mustang, Ranger, Focus) and can afford the costly infrastructure to manufacture RHD vehicles. But who knows how long that lasts? They have announced that they will cease manufacturing and selling most "cars" in the North American markets. They will only sell Mustang and the crossover version of the Focus. All other vehicles will either be "trucks" or SUVs.

It's a tough manufacturing environment for some of the traditional manufacturers. A sad day for an iconic Australian brand.

Make you wanna cry.

In a perverse kinda way it's fitting that he's frozen in time like that and remembered at or near his peak as a vocalist and lyricist. By the following year he was falling into heroin, Atlantic still wasn't sold on him, Malcolm wasn't channeling the classic riffs as often and I'm not sure Mutt Lange was great for their sound in the long run, despite the commercial success. Hendrix said when you're dead, you're made for life, and so it was with Bon and others.

Yeah I suppose Elvis falls into this category along with some other famous 27 year olds who died at that age.

Elvis was young enough to be seen as a great tragedy despite being past his best. Lennon, Marley, even Prince who was 50-something were mourned. Get to old age though and you might not make the front half of the paper, e.g. Chuck Berry went without a lot of fanfare.
