He‘s been trying to call you for weeks but because you’re on here all the time saying the same *smile* over and over and over - you’ve not hearing your phone ring
But the big difference is that professional cricketers know what they are signing on for, to be away from family for extensive periods of time, when they choose that profession. AFL footballers didn't. They expected interstate travel and sometimes leaving a day or two before the weekend game but that's all. Personally I think over the next couple of months the rate of infection in Australia will be so low that these hubs will be seen as overkill and unnecessary...fingers crossed.
I’ve deployed as a “singley” and deployed as a “marriedey”.... chalk and cheese as to enjoyment, headspace and full mind on task. I sympathise to an extent to those with a family.... in the end it will be a choice with repercussions either way with employment or home front.

For those saying they don't like the hub idea, I fully understand why. It's not the same, it's watered down footy. It's weird.
But life is presenting weirdness every day at the moment.
We are going to be asking a lot from the players, officials etc. But we are asking a lot of everybody at the moment. I've only just logged off work at 11:30pm, after logging on at 7:30am. I haven't been working the whole time, I have been alternating between being teacher to my kids, IT support to my wife, office tea lady, school tuck shop and my day job for 16 hours and it's been the same for over 4 weeks.
I can fully understand any player that wants to opt out. That's fine and we should accommodate them. They can stand down on no pay like a lot of other people in the economy.
Once we know how many from each club is standing down, perhaps then we can have a supp list draft to top club lists up with state league players who see it as an opportunity to try out in the big league. Would draw some additional interest into the competition.
At the end of the day, I will be watching as I expect a lot of people who don't like the idea will watch. A premiership will be awarded and it's a real premiership won by the team who wins the most important games.
Next year hopefully we revert to normal programming but those players who have stood themselves down will want to ensure they have done enough in their careers to date to earn a call up the next year (if out of contract that is).

Though not specified, this can only mean that they are prepared to sacrifice a bit now for the sake of the much greater good. They're prepared to practise social distancing even from footy until all is safe again. That is, all in good time.

Looking near and far, there are many reasons for the AFL to proceed with even greater caution towards a restart. Even the fans think so.
Imagine Dees win their first flag since 1964? Or the Saints win their first flag since 1966 in front nobody.
I'm sure their supporters would take it but geez all I wanted to do my whole life was see Richmond win a flag at the MCG.
It would be so bittersweet for their supporters not to be able to experience what it's all about.

But then there's the veiled threat. The AFL will do similar. Crowds and Fans will do the same.
Imagine we have a *smile* Hub season, or lose the Grand Hubnal. If we had Cotch, Jack, Sheds and a couple of others missing because they wanted to be with their families, the ferals would never forgive them. Their legacies tarnished.
As a fan/supporter/membership base who rode to glory on the back of our boys embracing each other and family with unwavering love and commitment, we now need to back them in if they decide the hub isn't what they want. We run the risk of fracturing what we've built up over the last few years and losing that something special we have.
I dont watch any of the shows but they replayed a snippet of it on SEN this morning, he nailed it as he generally does

I've been critical of the players in general, but the hub proposition is something that would normally require a hefty financial inducement on top of their contracted pay. Would prefer the concept falls over rather than clubs fielding compromised teams.
I Cannot believe noone is calling this Cat out.
Instead if calling him out for bringing the game to its kneess with constant pointless spending over his tenure.
