Where the hell is our game now?

Still glass half full for me.

Backline - Rock solid
Midfield - 50% being generous. Awaiting return of the cavalry
Forwards - 30% still being generous. Awaiting the return of some form (Jack, Lynch, George, Rioli)

Missing - Key players (Cotch, Prestia, Shed, Houli, Nank). All best 22 players.
Missing - Pressure game. It's building, but nowhere near the level we've come to see.

Dimma definitely needs to have a strategy against the "park the bus".
And F50 entries needs serious fixing. I cut our forwards some slack. The delivery has been shocking.

These shorter quarters are killing the game. They thought with shorter quarters would come more energy and a quicker more exciting game, but the opposite has happened. Teams get a bit of a lead and close up shop, or park the bus early and hope they can get a few quick goals to win.

Hopefully a win against lowly North occurs next week.
We're ekking out some wins but I'm not convinced we're all that good atm based on opponents we've beaten & how we're playing.
6th on the ladder could be a false economy with tougher opponents to come.
Still all you can do is keep banking the 4 points & hopefully things improve..

Agree, because nothing would be better then beating port or Brisbane in a GF
It will be over by the 15 minute Mark.
Hardwick isn't coaching well.
Our forward line, once the power of our team, is broken.
Hopefully we can stay in and then cause kaos in October

We've banked a few wins and North are on the nose.
We all know what that means.

Oddly enough it's our win against Cartoon in Round 1 which suddenly looks the goods.

The strategy against parking the bus opponents is simple.

Noah Balta and Jayden Short, given licence to take 55 m pot shots and go over them.!!

At the worse we still rack up behinds and the odd 6 pointer as opposed to nothing

And Brisbane in round 6 2010.

The game is an absolute Blight on Gill ,Shocker & all the others who have fiddled with the rules over the years to absolute suffocate the game ( no third man up, 6x6x6 centre bounces, three umpires, deliberate out of bounds, Turdsday & Monday night footy). The next agendas are 16 man sides & 16 /18 minutes quarters. Anyway with this second wave COVID-19 breakout in Sydney the noose has tightened further to strangle this AFL season.

Think it's just a case of a pure and unique game ripe to be influenced by other sports as professionalism increased. It's driven by the coaches and regardless of what they say, none of them will sacrifice a win for better viewing.

The AFL tinkers to "fix" things, but the coaches ultimately set the agenda.

One aspect of these rule changes is that they massively slow the game down as we wait for the rucks to nominate (ball ups take forever these days), everyone has to set up 6-6-6 etc. This gives teams way too much time to set up their defences.

Keep the game moving at stoppages. If there is a ball up, the umpire should grab the ball and toss it up rather than waiting around for ruck nominations and the like.

You need to incentivise the coaches to open up the game.

So the answer is simple - get rid of the against column on the ladder.

Very interesting notion.

Another simple strategy would be give hocking and scott really good references when they apply for jobs with other codes?

Shane McInnes reporting that the floating system of matches for this 2020 COIVID-19 season could continue in 2021 & beyond. Lay out who plays who & where but the date & time should only be locked in three or four weeks prior to the match. In years gone by when the seasons fixture is made public one has plenty of time to make the necessary arrangements (travel hotel work time off puchase tickets etc etc) to attend a match that requires you to travel distances in state or interstate but if this 3/4 week notification comes in that will be chaotic. Shane dahling & his cohorts seem to think we all sit on our couch's goggles eyed at footy on the box. For me this year one is watching Turdsday Friday night footy as nothing else on, Saturday depends who is playing , come Sunday only if Tigers are playing or if is pissing down outside. Hope SHocking does not read Shane's article.
