Chol has had three poor games in a row.
The late season game he was dropped after, the Crows game and final. He is not up to it.
He cannot play wing. He is afraid of contact in the ruck. He plays behind at the throw ins.
He cannot play.
Broad and Balta can both ruck for a few throw ins nd up forward. No issue.
Dimmas error in selection was Chol over Broad to play on Hipwood and Balta forward.

This week..out Chol and Arts.
In Lynch and ?. Maybe Broad but he was needed last game . Maybe Caddy.

I have been thinking about our team performance last week and I am wondering if we have been trying to get match fitness into our guys who had missed chunks of the season through injury or stayed in Melbourne - Houli, Prestia, Nankervis, Dave. The game against the Lions was lost in a series of moments which can be rectified.
I also think there may have been another factor in the loss.
Our aim is peak physical performance for the Prelim and GF so intense training in the past 2-3 weeks tapering off to PF and GF would have been the plan.
Lynch being injured unbalanced us and the slightly sub-par performance of the aforementioned players plus the rest of the squad meant we lost to Brisbane.
Some of the group looked tired and our connection was not quite there across the group. The lack of connection, which is integral to our game plan, is just coming together as we can now train as an whole team, not in groups of 9.
Dimma and Burge rolled the dice with the training and preparation and just missed. They gambled that the worst case is we have to play another game which may actually turn out to be a win by getting more game time.
Maybe this is just my demented ramblings and time will tell.

That is all just excuse making. No one trains to peak for the prelim and GF but not any other finals. Beaten by a better team on the day who had their fair share of luck.

Yeah but what I don't get is Dimma's comment about team selection. If Chol wasn't there to help out Nank who else could we have selected? Soldo and CCJ not available; we don't have any other ruckmen.
Simple. Caddy should have been brought in to play Lynch's role and Chol utilised as a second ruck / third tall as he has been doing previously.

Dimma said that Lynch was 98 percent right to go for last week.
Makes me wonder why we didn’t play him.
backed fired.

nah I think it’s just an expression that meant he wasn’t 100%, close but not quite.

I have no problems Lynch not playing and it’s to simplistic to say that if Lynch played we were guaranteed a win, a better chance yes, but not guaranteed.

If we don’t make the GF we are simply not good enough at this point of this season - a missed opportunity maybe but if we can’t beat the saints and Port in Adelaide we don’t deserve a shot at premiership.

I can't see how Aarts can be dropped...

Our whole game is predicated on locking the ball in our forward half, playing off a short pitch instead of a long one, as per the Konrad Marshall book. So you can’t just remove Aarts because he didn’t kick a goal and put Caddy there who is not going to be able to put the same pressure on.

Don't get me wrong, I would like to see Caddy in, I just don't know who for...only option would be Aarts out and Bolton has to go forward...but Bolton is a weapon in centre clearances
Our forward pressure was very poor from all our small forwards. Where was the manic chasing and tackling? If that doesn't improve we lose bc that has been our 1 wood. Could not get the crumbs off the packs bc Bris either did long 'golden fist' spoils or took defensive marks. Swapping Aarts for Lynch will give us marking power and tackling power. Lynch in means we don't depend on Chol as a marking deep fwd but who backs up Nank espcially if Nank gets injured? We got away with it in 2017 but we were lucky. Too late to experiment with Dusty or Bolton or Pickett or Broad as backup ruck so Chol has to stay bc we have no one else.
I'd love to put Markov on the wing to replace Pickett and Broad in defence or on I/C bench...but how?

Lambert and Houli have entered our bottom 6 this strange season imo.

Of our regular 22 or widely accepted best 22 this season, I think they probably sit there with danny, george, jake and possibly caddy?

Our premiership hopes rest largely with these bloke 'raising the fight' imo.

Probably 4 of them need to play 3 games near their best.

I reckon this is what Hardwick was thinking. Whether it would have made any difference, who knows.

Feel a bit better listening to Balmey on talking tigers ,

He seems to think if we were to make it through to the GF ,

in a roundabout way , we might be better off with that loss ,

1. it might be the wake up call we needed . 2. with all the byes we have had , players underdone , difficulty training in the hub , might be a blessing to keep playing every week to build momentum .

First real selection blunder they’ve made since 18 prelim. Hopefully they don’t double down on Chol and play him again this week.

Good to read that. It's not like Balme is renowned for positive spin
