It's going to be very hard to argue against. For me, he is up there with the other fantastic no. 4 - Royce Hart - who was captain as well as a similar match-winning player (at CHF) in the huge matches.
Royce lost games due to crippling knee problems which curtailed his career. But, now, Dusty might just have taken the title. Should say that he is to my mind a greater player than Bartlett who was virtually a fully 'outside' player.

(Too 'young' to ever see the one and only Jack Dyer though).

Dusty Martin is a football phenomenon.
My word we've had some great ones of the game though haven't we. Well said, we have plenty to be thankful for.

Well that was quite a game, certainly a Grand Final for the ages. Truly a great game.

Where do you start?

You start with the first half. Geelong were bloody good. There were good reasons why we couldn't get our game going, Geelong's set up and, even more, their pressure, was elite. They were killing us for good reason, they were playing so well. But one of the signs of a truly great team is the ability to tough it out when the opposition are winning and limit the damage, we did that. A lot of the kicks into our forward 50 went straight to the opposition, but, while frustrating, it was at least in part a result of Geelong pressure. The way to beat Richmond is to stop us playing our own game, but geez is it ever hard to pull that off, even more so for 4 quarters.

Dusty's goal at the end of the second was crucial, just brought the margin back to something more manageable.

At the start of the 3rd you could see our pressure and intensity had lifted. It certainly gave me hope that we could cut back that deficit. Still worried with Vlastuin missing but we were pegging it back. One we got our noses in front and smelt the kill we became unstoppable. That big goal from Menengola in the last was magnificent, big kick from a long way out under a lot of pressure. But we kept kicking more until the result was sealed. I had my daughter on zoom and commented that I preferred 3/4 time last year to this year as we just had our noses in front and it was very much still up for grabs.

Great game, win for the ages.

So many contributors. Thought Houli was quiet then I read here that he did his calf in the first quarter. What a guy, you are a hero Bachar.

Now, a few things about the game.

The incident where Dangerfield knocked out Vlastuin was a dog act pure and simple. Momentum, unavoidable, just one of those things? I call bulls***. He ran into the pack with his elbow cocked and ready to hit. Was he spoiling the ball? I haven't seen a replay but did it not come off his forearm, is that how you spoil a ball? I don't think so. He was leading with his elbow and that was as deliberate as you will see these days. Should be rubbed out but won't even get cited.

Umpiring was a mess. Dangerfield got a free for in the back in the first quarter as he was tackled, I saw at least half a dozen similar incidents in the game where the adjudication was different - inconsistent. Deliberate out of bounds was unrecognisable from the way it was adjudicated 8 days ago. Holding the ball: grossly inconsistent. I know Ablett has been a great player, but that doesn't give his whole team the right to hold on to the ball for ages and not get pinged. Passing the ball to a team mate has been illegal disposal forever. Absolute joke as per usual.

What an era we are building. I really couldn't care less whether the media call this a dynasty, we know the truth, the supporters of all the other clubs know the truth. This is a truly great football team and now let's make sure this is a truly great football club through thick and thin and for decades to come.

Thanks to Benny, Peggy, Dimma, the players, the whole club. We are back, we are the biggest damned AFL club ever, and when Richmond are back we nail multiple flags.

Go Tiges.

DS
Excellent summary DS, enjoy and celebrate like it's 1999 ...................... oh wait, that sounds so old these day's !!!!

This season has given us three special and blossoming talents, Balta, Bolton and Baker. They are all young and still learning but have been outstanding all season and not more so than tonight. With these three playing in yellow and black our future is assured and when you think of some of our other youngsters , exciting times ahead

Its 3.38 am - still wired and cant sleep. I watched the game with my good mate who is a Cats man.

Just b4 half time I felt we began to grab a better hold of the game and told him so. He could'nt see it.

We did the same thing v the Crows in '17, and again last nite and changed gear, from then on I did'nt think they could go with us. They could'nt.........again.

Dangermouse has failed in consecutive finals/big games and to me that's where you make your bones in the Pantheon of the greats of the game. He is the AFL's love child, is constantly protected by the umps and the media blow wind up his ass at every opportunity. It really must hurt to get treated like a new recruit by Dusty and have him kick the sealer from an impossible angle while under the hammer.....priceless.

I am old enough to just remember '73/74; to me this team is the best Tiger team I have ever seen.......with Dusty among the greatest finals players of all time.

And what is the best thing about this side? Opposition clubs, their supporters and Media flogs STILL pay no respect to us, the players, or what we have achieved. Its brilliant.

Long may it continue.

Unbelievable achievement by the players, the Club, the coaches and all involved. We are being repaid in spades for turning up and supporting our Club through its darkest times, so proud of our Clubs members and supporters. It's home Tiger supporters !!

EAT EM ALIVE !!

Gotta laugh. Normally by this time all you Aussies have popped off to bed and the likes of me and UKTiger have this board to ourselves.
Not tonight. You're all still going strong!

Had a very similar feel to last year’s prelim with them in front at half time , everyone thinking we are in trouble, then smashed them in the second half

What a team , such a pleasure to support this team through this era ,

And the scary thing, there is no reason at all they can’t do it again

OK, you have NO IDEA how sweet this one is when your entire Family ( and Bro-in-law is an ex Gee player) is mad Geelong AND you are in Geelong right this second and live here. Have just gone down the street where I know another Richmond supporter lives, (he flies the Premiership flags all year round), to hug someone, but he must be at a mate's, no one was home. Never mind, I'll try again tomorrow ..... PREMIERSSSSSSSS 2020 !!!!!! Wooooooooo Hooooooooo.
Jack you legend...just been reading the thread and I 100% know how you feel. Born and bred in Geelong till I moved to Melbourne at 21 for work. Copped absolute *smile* for ever going for the Tigers as a youngster (best mate did). All my family bar 1 brother go for Geelong. To be fair most have been pretty good, but to the few old mates I have not heard from for years just start texting me “ SUCK A *smile*”.

Especially you “DARRYN LYONS”...hated you at school and still hate you, you absolute FLOG !

What a football club, I think that has a lot to do with our success , they have that country footy club feel an attitude , they love the game and there teammates.

Was definitely a different night , hard to feel like a GF till the tension of the last quarter .

Nothing will ever be like 2017 , however this one was just as massive for me for a bunch of different reasons , it feels like a real *smile* all you haters , even the 3 time premiership skip mentioned about the haters , really has been an us against them and we’ve beat the living *smile* out of em .

In awe of our football club , I’ll die a happy man after seeing this Dynasty that may not be finished yet, even if it is couldn’t have asked for more

Dangerfield should NEVER be refered as a great.
Thats 3 finals he has done Sweet FA
The most memorable thing Danger did in the 2nd half was fall to his knees playing for a free kick. Even the ump didn't fall for it.

One thing I've learnt about Danger over the last few years is he cannot handle real finals pressure, his disposal is woeful, he goes to dust.

Please media never talk about Danger or De Goey being in the same league as Dusty ever again. I say the most complete player I've ever seen play the game. Every single one of his 4 goals was a normal season goal of the year contender. The guy is a magician. Geelong couldn't touch him, he went to a new beast level for this GF. What a game, what a team.
