Trade talk 2019/20

Pretty much non existent down back
Such a negative team, they play to lose. They proved against us they could play 6ft kpd's and still keep the score so low they were within 1-2 goals behind for the majority of the game

Loving the cats commentary Ridley, cracking me up.
Yeah the entitlement mentality is starting to remind me of Essendon and its supporters. I hope they soon follow the same trajectory that Essendon has been on since 2001.

I’m very hesitant to post this but what the heck, Got told last night that the Tigers and Bulldogs are up to something creative. Not specifically a deal between clubs but they are both being very quiet & coy, something might surprise tonight as minor or major it could be.
Hmm. The Dogs still have their pick 14 this year, which they don't really want/need.

Wonder if that somehow ends up in our hands?

Could it be our 21 + 36 for their 14?

Or maybe their 2020 first rounder for our 2021 first rounder ... a straight swap with perhaps some fiddling around the edges?

I don't reckon you want to be without a first rounder next year.

Yeah that show is just terrible. That is the problem with Geelong; they are all about the individual. Do it for the little master. Dangerfield deserves a flag. Selwood is the greatest captain in history (how many flags as captain?). Chris Scott is the AFL version of Bill Belichick.

Morris, Ralph, King, Montagna. Absolute plonkers the lot of them.

I know this is a big call but after watching last night's show I think that Montagna has taken a clear lead as the biggest goose in the football media. All of Geelong, Port and Brisbane will win the flag. 12 teams will make the top 4; including the Dees!! Dodoro is the best list manager. St.Kilda is an absolute genius club; recruiting McKernan and chasing 125 year old Frawley are masterstrokes

He is an absolute *smile*.
Couldn't have wrapped it up any better.
Montongoose reckons there is a top 14

Higgo gone apparently. Pick 17 and a future 2nd in, Pick 21 and a future 4th out..
Yeah I've heard that too. Not happy with that deal. He wanted to leave, the Saints wanted him, he was contracted, we should have got more or kept him. Not sure why we should give up a player that a major competitor thinks will make them stronger so cheaply. Higgins has been here only 3 years and we've supported him through his hardships; he hasn't earnt the right to call the shots.

Anyway I'll just reflect on 3 flags in 4 years and the mild annoyance will dissipate pretty quickly. Especially if we smack the Saints in the finals on the way to 4 out of 5 :cupgold

So we end up with a pick around 40 for Higlet? Yet another give away, keeps sending the message to other clubs we are pushovers

Looks like round 1 swap with st Kilda which means we get 17. Great get.
The deal is most likely Higgo for a early-mid 30s pick. He's a first round draft pick who has played 43 out of a possible 70 games in the best team of the past 4 years. And for most of last year he was unavailable due to a serious brain injury. It's a bit light on for us I reckon; we should have extracted more or kept him.

It's a minimally better deal than Geelong got for some bloke named Lachie Fogarty. I don't really know who he is but from what I can see he has made nowhere near the impact at Geelong as Higgo did with us.

If Higlet goes it ends up being 5 players out (Higgins, Rance, Turner, Markov, English) equalling 39 players left on the list. In: Colina & potentially father son M.Rioli & or NGA Baxter. With 40 on the current list this means no more than another 4 (44 is the list max including category A & B rookies) can be recruited which presumably will be via the draft.

Should Junior be drafted as a father/son this leaves 3 spots available on the list.

Poor deal. If we have waited all this time to do a deal like this, should AT LEAST have been a future 3rd not future 4th

What I meant is we shouldnt even be giving up any picks next year.

Best we should have done for a CONTRACTED Player (you can tell I'm pissed by the upper case letters), is:

swap of 17 and 21 this year
their 2nd and 3rd next year

Even then this is unders

we should have held out for a 1st next year or no deal. He's contracted ffs

So what is it?

1. A fringe player who is not good enough
2. A first round player we should get a great deal for

HINT: you can't have it both ways... unless youre the lead singer of Supernaut!
...

Reckon it really needs to be weighed up against the trade period and draft in its entirety. Do we still try to get further up the draft order and who do we end up with our first pick. I suspect we are reaching for a tall that might just be below the "Gold Class" in this draft

I read that Kangas and Dees exchanged future fourth round picks as part of the Ben Brown deal. What is the point of that?

Maybe it’s a case with Jack Higgins (same as Dan Butler) that if you start drinking your own bath water, think you’re a bit better than what you really are, put your own ambitions in front of the team and club than you’re probably not right for our culture and you’ll only weaken it.

At the end of the day, we've got a number of players that can fill this role including 4-5 who look likely and haven't played yet. Higgins in 2018 form is a future first rover, albeit his kicking is suspect and he's not super quick. Whether he can get back to that is unknown.

We need to rebuild other areas of our list before small forwards/midfielders - let's focus on that.
