I'm fully in support of removing compulsory mask wearing.
But we have to accept that this means if there is an outbreak, its early stages will probably be worse.
So it's not a simple decision, and carries an element of risk. As this is mostly an ethical/social discussion now, you have to weigh up harm vs benefit. For most, the harm of wearing a mask is small to the point of negligible. But the benefit right now is probably also small to the point of negligible.
So we may as well go with what's less annoying.
Trouble is that masks are removed for eating and drinking so they are coming off inside, where they are likely more effective anyway. We could end up with no masks outside, and you go inside, put on the mask for 30 seconds, order a drink and it is off again.
Not simple really.

But is that the experience that NSW has had? Hard to know exactly but they have managed their whole covid experience without masks and the level of restrictions we had. I don't assume its simply because people behave differently in Sydney.
Now we have our contact tracing sorted I don't understand why we can't operate at the same level of restrictions and voluntary mask wearing that they operate under.
I support the use in high-risk situations. I would continue to use one where i am in a higher risk situation even if they were voluntary.
i think the small concern is there that there are still unreported cases. if there are, and they number more than just a few, it could escalate quickly.
the government is just being ultra cautious, which in the case of masks is reasonable.
Holy hell... test rates in South Dakota over 50% positive. A lot of this is affecting First Nation peoples so death rates will be pretty bad.
