the law was used over 6000 times in Victoria last year, i believe. it is enforced, predominantly against vulnerable people who are no risk to others, and there is little public benefit gained from them being charged.
that is why Victoria is getting rid of the law.

Maybe the intention in part is to protect them as well? Many would be extremely vulnerable and exposed to harm.

Not that necessarily ends up the case.

Agree that locking them up isn’t the solution.

No idea the point of that article.

If the ALP followed the path of looking after its old base not so many of them would have voted in Scott Morrison. A greens voter will always preference the ALP. So don’t try and win the Greens primary vote.

I also get a bit tired of the AMA always being quoted too as they are not really representative of a lot of views in the hospital space. I am not sure what changes for Hospitals and ED departments because if a patient is threatening or violent then the police will be called as they are now. If they need medical attention they will get it.
Doctors are just doctors. Some / a lot are pretty cluless about issues in society. A bloke who performs colonoscopies for a living for instance.

The AMA membership has also reduced enormously over the years from 95% in the 1960s to less than 30% now. It was once famously referred to as the CFMMEU in white coats.
In the end it is a Union and its main reason for existence is to maximise the earnings and employment of its members and in that pursuit it does a very good job.

Yep.

I don't know how anyone could vote for the Greens. Their refusal to support Labor's Emission Trading Scheme, just so they could win more seats at the next election was despicable and complete bastardry

Australia would have lead the world in environmental matters. We could've been contenders........ we could've been something!!

Australia could've stood for something!!

they f'd that up, and i think have admitted that, that they let policy purity get in the way of policy pragmatism.

but then if you wont vote for the greens cos they didnt support an ETS who would you vote for?
Neither the LIbs or Labor cover themselves in glory on the environmental front.

and if you didnt vote for a party because they took a position to win seats you wouldnt have anyone to vote for.

I would've thought that Labor have got the Liberal party covered environmentally, Abbott comes to mind, and Morrison bringing a lump of coal into parliament.

having the Libs covered environmentally is a bit like having One Nation covered for intelligence, or Trump covered for handling health pandemics, or telling the truth. it isnt exactly difficult.

Unfortunately a lot of voters don't agree, that's why we're stuck with this bunch of "smiles"

i dont think many think the Libs are better on the environment than Labor, they just put priority on money, and believe that the party of Robo-debt, sport rorts, over priced airports, coal investment, and Corman charity is good with finances.

The Shot comes out with another good article on the nbn and how the media did not report truthfully on it:

Great article, I knew it was bad under the incompetence of the Neanderthals running the show but I didn't know they had laid 50,000KMs of copper cable. That's even worse than the pathetic late-19th century coax we have.

What a complete and utter waste of funds, holding back all of us those jokers perpetrated when they knew full well that the so-called mixed technology NBN was a complete lemon.

They should have been sacked on the spot for such short sighted idiocy. The media should be strung up for not exposing it for the farce it was because we still have to live with this.

Words are truly inadequate to convey just how shockingly bad and incompetent the NBN decision was.

By the way, IanG, that link don't work as there is the F word in the link, which gets changed, now, I wonder if this will work (slowly as I;m on the NBN): NBN Mess.

DS

PS: nope, that didn't work, I'm sure people can find it during those rare moments the NBN is actually functioning, just don't hold your breath while trying to download anything.
