Unfurling the flags - same game or separate?

If it's anything like the unfurling of our 2017 flag then I wouldn't get too excited.

That was done in the blink of an eye.

I hope they use that experience to do a better job of it this time around.
That was only because we were out of practice.
Or maybe still in a premiership hangover.
And yes, I was there in 2018 Round 1. It wasn’t too exciting save for the poor spirit shown on the Carlton banner that night. And they’re still on sweet 16!

I suggested after Danny Frawleys tradgic death that it would be fitting to invite all of the past coaches of the club to be the ones to carry the flag. Given the various issues surrounding coaches, it would be a fitting tribute to Danny and his family. I think it would also fit with the clubs purpose and values, and put a few ghosts to bed.

Given we have the luxury of two flags, perhaps it could also include past captains.

It has to be at once.

It's never happened before and never will again.

Let us be the answer to a trivia question for the next hundred years.
Neither has unfurling of 2 different flags on consecutive home games.;)

More appropriate and fitting would be Merv Keane after his tragic circumstances back in 2017.No disrespect to Frawley but Merv is a Richmond man.

I don’t remember the 2017 flag unfurling, but I’d like to see drums, dancers, fire, streamers, and fireworks wth the theme song blasting.

The dancers form the number 21 to represent the number of goals we won by.

The lights dim, a row a hooded men wearing black cloaks walk into the field carrying large fire torches, they light a wireframe of ‘19 and ‘20.

Fireworks go off as a hooded figure from the corner of the MCG roof zips down to the centre of the ground on a zipline, and removes the hood - it’s Dusty

The rest of the hoods are removed - rest of the team

Fireworks go off as hundreds of small, inflatable Dangerfield balloons are released into the crowd for fans to pop.

...something.

Personally I've never really understood the big deal about unfurling a premiership flag in Round 1.

Yeah weird tradition and pretty meaningless. I much prefer the gold logo on the jumper.

Except that this is the only tradition which goes right back.

Clubs have unfurled flags at round 1 of the following year since 1898 (back then it was usually unfurled by the wife of the Club President . . . then the tradition was that the premiership team went on to lose their first game).

The cup only goes back to the 1950s, the gold logo only back to, what, 2017 when Footscray had it on their jumpers after winning 2016.

The flag is the one constant and many football competitions have flags but not necessarily cups going back to their founding days.

As the original prize for winning the premiership I think we should continue this (Richmond's cups from 1920 to 1943 were made in the 1990s or 2000s - they do not date back to the actual premierships). I would say that I thought the 2017 ceremony most underwhelming, they need to do a better job this time. Can't remember if the flag flew for the whole game in 2017 but I do recall that was what happened years ago.

We have had our fair share of ex coaches.

I have watched us play home/away games at windy hill and kardinia where druggies and cats have premiership flags flying from the grandstands. Was a thing they used to do in the past, back when home grounds really meant something.
