Bye Bye Jack Higgins!

You want to ask OUR recruiting team why his kicking was an issue this weekend? You’ve lost the plot Zipps.
Im not convinced that Higgins was a top 20 pick compare him to Zac Bailey that went at pick 15.
Bailey is a little mini version of Toby Greene

Say nothing, kick 3.1 next week and it is long forgotten.

Saints have lost it with not letting King practice with Lloyd either.
Kind of understand where StKilda are coming from.
Getting an outsider to come in to fix his goal kicking is saying the current coaches don't know what they are doing.
Lloyd comes in and fixes the issue, the club will be asking whats wrong with our kicking coach?
Best to have the player struggle then lose you job.

Didn't see the game bur saw a mash up of his misses. His early misses weren't bad, just drifted wrong side of the post. His last was a shocker. You could feel the pressure weighing him down. Having said that, his kicking at goal (from set shots) was a real weakness at Richmond. Will 'Missy' Higgins stick. It's up to Jack!

st kilda gave this air by reacting so strongly to it.

it is interesting having Caro on FC saying if you play AFL football you should expect this to get the big bucks.

Not sure how that logic would play into her other criticsms of how women or minorities are treated. E.g. if you wear a short skirt you should expect to get wolf whistled - (because that’s what has always happened)

either bullying / mocking is the start of a slippery slide to discrimination / violence or it isn’t. so just treat people with respect and avoid the name calling.

I think I started with finding it funny but on reflection it probably (barely) crosses the line. But it’s definitely at the lower end of abuse. If you wrote ’higgins’ misses costly in saints narrow loss’ then it’s just accurate but less clickbaitable.

probably the difference is between labelling the person vs labelling the action / outcome

That "Missy" tag will remain with him for the rest of his career now.

Society has become very precious. I thought the Missy Higgins headline was comedy gold.

First I've heard of the story here.

FWIW, I'd agree very funny if run by the gutter *smile* Herald Sun. Their brief is to be the biggest *smile* they can be.

but unacceptable if run by AFL.com.

haven't seen the game or the story, but gather Young Jack, who is a lovely fella,

had 7 shots at goal?

cheering mistakes has never been my thing,

unless the person making the mistake has just acted like a *smile* (i.e. Buddy belting some little bloke).

My first impression when I read the headline was that it was poor form by the AFL website.

I am not sure the Saints need to make their complaint public, adding fuel to the fire.

I thought it was amusing.

Missy Higgins, leaving the saints with a scar. C'mon, that is comedy gold.

We can't sledge the AFL for being biased journalists and pushing the party line, and then say if they act like an independent press to the AFL (eg Herald-sun) it's OK.

I thought football clubs were meant to toughen players up and say, you're going to get public criticism and ridicule, as well as public adulation. Don't ride the crest of either wave and ignore the outside world. Just listen to the message you hear inside these 4 walls......

Why is Higgins kicking an issue today?
The question needs to be asked to our recruiting team.
Why was he taken with pick 17?
No leg speed, small and struggled to kick 40 metres?
He was missing goals (set shot) for us from basically directly in front.
Stkilda should've watched him play before acting like hero's and thinking they were getting a gun.
Higgins would be a great footballer in the southern football league.

He was a ball magnet that dominated the National carnival. His scope for improvement was small relatively to many others though and in hindsight it was a shocking pick. Look the quality in the 15 players that went immediately after him!

The recruiters were still pissed from the GF win nothing else can explain it.
Imagine Ryan or Allen next to Castagna and Jack

or Tim Kelly, Sam Taylor or Starcevich. Five players from Perth that we clearly missed.

What was with the melee in the first half….seemed like Higgins and broad toe to toe.
and then later Higgins took Floss’ legs out from under him…..hmmm the talk about him not being popular seems to have legs.
