Coronavirus

Two new cases and the world is coming to an end?

We had 1202 new infections yesterday ... and we are still opening up. No masks in supermarkets. If you have a "corona-passport" you can pretty much do anything. Masks on in PT still (at least, that's the directive - nobody seems to be following it though). 65 % one jab, 42 % two.

Is there a sense that if you make the choice to go out and end up getting covid its your own fault? And if so are most OK with that?

A journo asked her about specifying who is an essential worker, as Victoria had done this very well.
She smirked and said “no they didn’t”

Well clearly she thinks essential workers including JB Hifi staff, Sexyland staff, Harvey Norman staff etc.

I get Bottle-O's staff, there would be rioting in the streets.

Interesting question. Don't know really.
Personally I am in a unique situation. I work from home permanently (did so even before covid). So aside from shopping trips I rarely leave the house. I'm a foreigner here so I don't miss not going to local sporting events - never did so before.
Recently my wife and I went to dinner with some friends (four couples), and even though I have been vaccinated twice I got tested the day before (my second jab had only been a week earlier). It's easy, local, free, don't have to book. I know I didn't have to but it was six people I don't often socialise with one of whom is in her 60s and has health issues. I'm not going to get tested every time I go out but you take everything on a case-by-case basis.

This is all on NSW. Their hotel quarantine breach because they don’t protect the airport drivers well enough, their outbreak, their inability to act quickly enough and their “personal responsibility “ lockdown.
Then our liberal opposition leader has the temerity to criticise. It makes my blood boil and I’m not even an Andrews fan !
Rant over

Not quite right. She wasn't responding to the definition of an essential worker with her response of no they didn't. Listen again.

Her response was poor but so were many of the questions. Not for this thread really. Covid is a clusterfuck.

Edit - it is for this thread, see it has been moved

This country doesn't have common sense.

Yeh, I've been a fan of how they have handled it but they relied on previous successes. They should be embarrassed every time they say delta and contagious, they knew before the initial outbreak how contagious it was (from the OS and Vic experience) and got too smart. Gladys can't claim to have the best health experts now. Either that or she doesn't listen.

Add complacency of the general population and it created what we have.

I just saw this and thought it was, while not verbatim, accurate along with the article it was posted in (I not on Twitter)

anyway, she’s a typical LNP smug *smile*

edit: I did go back and listen. The discussion was about their *smile* up messaging about what essential workers were, then the last quote from the journo was “why not tighten that though? Victoria did it very successfully.”
Gladys: “No they didn’t”

so pretty much right

I’m not convinced that even if we get 70% second dose that we will open up fully. Thinking needs to be on opening when a certain milestone has been reached as the best way to get people vaccinated is to show them rewards for doing so.

O'Brien is the worst type of politician. All he does is disagree and criticise. In the 1st lockdown he practically admitted he didn't know what he would have done differently if he was in power.

If Labour said a slice of bread was a slice of bread, O'Brien would disagree.

Gladys is no different to Scomo. Things go well takes all the plaudits (Golden Gladys and all that), when it goes bad, reaction is to deflect (I'm just listening to health advice).
