Coronavirus

Just on that, I heard on Raf Epstein's show yesterday that more than half of the Sydney cases have occurred in retail environments & many stores are now having trouble staffing their shops due to being exposure sites. It's counter productive to keep them open. They'll go broke anyway the longer it goes on.

yes, but if an LNP leader declares retail 'non-essential',

they have a total existential meltdown,

and turn into a vegan with an aboriginal flag tattooed on their shoulder and carries an aluminium water bottle around in a hemp bag

Yeah it is an absolutely ludicrous situation. They just don't get it up there. Or maybe they do but they have such a highly inflated opinion of their self worth that they just do what the want anyway and consequences be damned.

The 'essential workers' concept in Sydney is completely bizarre on 2 levels

1. That LNP have an ideological anaphylaxis to calling retail non-essential, and

2. How retailers and real estate agents can delude themselves.

this quote from a guardian article on the topic

"Regienald Panganiban from Enhanced Supplements, a fitness store in Fairfield, said the discussions around who was an essential worker were “absolutely confusing”.

“At the moment, essential is not defined very clearly, and I would probably define myself as healthcare, as I sell supplements and proteins,” he said."

Confusing? really? Clue: will civil society break down if people can't purchase amino acid pangolin milk powder? healthcare? C'mon.

bakery? tick. Ambo? tick rubbish collection? tick. Muscle Building supplement powders and dark web steroids? cross

although I can see how, in Sydney, real estate agents could be considered essential; they are a kind of religious community leader down there.

*smile* me.
They're just being obstinate *smile* heads. They know the score but they think they are too important to have to deal with it properly.

Just remember, our lovely government (federal) allowed so many AUSTRALIANS return from India 3 months ago, all when Covid was rife over there.
All after, 2 months of warnings to "come home" which a lot didnt.

they all flooded back, and brought Delta with them.

This outbreak is not surprising and its not 100% the removalists fault.

I’m not convinced that even if we get 70% second dose that we will open up fully. Thinking needs to be on opening when a certain milestone has been reached as the best way to get people vaccinated is to show them rewards for doing so.
The Doherty Institute is saying 80% fully vaccinated is probably the line

My concern is that we won't get 80% even wanting to get vaccinated

10 cases in Vic. about what i expected.

This is all on NSW. Their hotel quarantine breach because they don’t protect the airport drivers well enough, their outbreak, their inability to act quickly enough and their “personal responsibility “ lockdown.
Then our liberal opposition leader has the temerity to criticise. It makes my blood boil and I’m not even an Andrews fan !
Rant over

Remember the Herald Scum headline “Dan-Made Disaster” last year? I am looking forward to a similar one from them blaming Gladys for our lockdown… not holding my breath though.

They're too busy "reporting" that Andrews has called another lockdown and promoting the 100 or so lunatics protesting outside parliament.

Murdoch is one of the most dangerous men on the planet.

We had 1202 new infections yesterday ... and we are still opening up. No masks in supermarkets. If you have a "corona-passport" you can pretty much do anything. Masks on in PT still (at least, that's the directive - nobody seems to be following it though). 65 % one jab, 42 % two.
I'm damn well hoping we get a 'corona passport' for those that have had the jab here too but somehow I feel it's unlikely..

apparently "500,000" were supposed to be attending the snap protest according to the some of RWNJ social media pages. :mhihi

maybe i'm too biased because I am fully vaccinated, but I am of the view that i deserve extra exemptions during a lockdown because I am fully vaccinated.

People will disagree with this because I can still catch COVID… but at some point, people need to be rewarded for doing their civic duty.

I think it's more despicable than that. Gladys and ScoMo are determined to get NSW through this without ever locking down as hard as Victoria. To lockdown like Vic would be to admit Dan had it right all along. Get NSW out of this without locking as hard, then claim victory, moral superiority and leadership excellence because not only did they not lockdown as hard as Dan, but they managed it with the Delta variant.

You've been rewarded by getting a free vaccination against a killer pandemic creating virus.

If you ask nicely someone might be able to arrange a medal for you.

the reward for doing your civic duty is either

1. living in a civil society, or
2. you and your family understanding that you're not a *smile*.

both are ample reward IMHO.

I agree this is what they are doing, but it just proves how dumb they are. They realise this is what the UK etc have already been through and done, and been through a lockdown for 6 months to 1 year. If they are happy with that then go for it, but we aren't prepared for that in Melbourne.

They seem to be oblivious to the fact that the virus exists outside of Australia with most of the things they do on the fly. They were spruiking their case numbers yesterday as being a great sign (as they were low), waiting to see todays numbers, if they spike back up again are they going to admit that 1 day is not a trend reversal.

Maybe but if that is the case they have already failed. Anyone with working eyes can see that. No amount of spin will make any difference.

Well, Macron has made that sort of move in France with restaurants and vaccination passes.

ScoMo begs to differ. Spin always works, it's the key to success, the key to greatness.
