The Blair "Which?" Project

Kind of a nothing report.

As I understand Tom Hanks has been approached to run the AFL next year. But with his job and family currently entrenched in Hollywood he won’t be accepting the job.
Damn, he would have been great as a running coach too!

Bloke at work (Carlton supporter) was spouting off today that BH had commited to Carlton, apparently from a friend of his who knows Blair.

I find this one a bit hard to believe. As I understand, he and Livo are the 2 most senior footy figures and there is a division of responsibility betwen them. So he's got a great position at a great, stable club, with his best draft hand in years to trade and/or recruit kids with. And the alternative is to go to a politically divided rabble who may well recruit a headstrong coach whose first instict will always be to top up with soldiers. Yeah nah.

I thought the carlton board were following the recommendations set out, have they dump this aside and following up with a quick fix (15 yr plan?)

Jacob Hopper staying at the Giants. Another mid off the table.

Unless it’s Tom Mitchell or we have someone hidden away that we are trading for, it looks like we are taking the pick to the draft table.

Yep that’s my read as well. You can also add Cerra to that list. Seems like we have little interest there as well.

A few good mids are FA’s next year. I wonder if we’re keeping our powder dry for 2022 when we have more room in the TPP with a few expected retirements.

Time for RFC to play its cards at the draft.
Been a while since the Club has had the chance to flex its muscles on such a scale at the draft.

We need mids now unfortunately. Can't rely on cotchin prestia edwards to do the bulk of the midfield work with their age and injury history. The cupboard is bare and we'll struggle if we don't bring in a ready mid or 2.

Got a feeling TPP is Tight .. so we might be looking at a mid to do the job ( clearances ) but comes at an affordable price

In all seriousness how low is the salary cap?
We have 2 players over a mill and we can't move.
Collingwood are bent over. Sydney can't do anything because of Franklin. Apparently Essendon might have to trade out.
Its time the cap increased.
Its a fken joke

I hope we're talking to Parker

Covid reductions combined with clubs banking on future cap increases when signing players to long term deals.

It’s tragic that the RFC finally got itself into a strong financial position only to be kneecapped by the AFL football department softcap and covid induced austerity.

I agree and if we don't get that person, I suspect we might restructure some of those other contracts to pay whatever gap we have in the cap this year. Ie. we didn't expect Astbury to retire, so would have had something in there for him, if we replace him with a 1st year draftee for example, there will be a gap. Maybe we will restructure maybe Lynch or Dustins contracts and they get more next year providing us more flexibility after 2022.

There should be more money for players and less for AFL executives (and media). Not sure how it works in overseas comps but I am sure I have read that AFL is one of the few comps in the world where the top exec earns more money than the top player.

And that's just their declared income...
