Jack Graham, did his shoulder in the Prelim in 2019 and came back on under extreme pain to lead the team into a Grand Final he knew he would never play in. That is Leadership!! 2017 GF Jack Graham shut down Rory Sloan after half time to deliver us our first flag. He is not our best player by a long way, but his leadership cannot be questioned.

Agree.

Jack Graham will be 24 at the beginning of the 2022 season.
Is an established player now - the C will make him an even better player.
Has been the C all through his juniors. This is his resume below. Players choose though, so could be anyone!

In 2013 he captained the under 15s South Australian representative schoolboys team at the year's national championships
The following year he captained the premiership winning SA side at the Under 16 national championships.
In 2016 Graham was selected to represent and captain the South Australian side at the national under 18s carnival. Graham was awarded the Larke Medal as the competition's best player, becoming the first South Australian to do so in 14 years. He was later named in the competition's All Australian team and received South Australia's most valuable player award.
That is impressive Bob

Depends which way the club goes.
Reward loyalty? Someone for a few years while some mature further by being say a VC?
Or go hard now and appoint a 24-27 year old?
The main points to consider:
1. Will Dusty be asked?
2. Will the players vote for him?
3. Does Dusty WANT to be have C next to his name as by all reports he is already quite vocal and a leader already?

Grimes for sure imo. Deserves it and would be a great leader and ambassador for the club even for a couple of years.
As an aside can we please spell Nick Vlastuin correctly ? ( I know it’s a small issue :))
Had a enough of people spelling your name wrong Nick

Reckon Vlastuin at 27 and contracted for four years is the right age to take over.

Dusty should be considered only if he really wants to do it. Can't see meeting with sponsors etc being high on his list of priorities. Happy for him to be vc with gameday responsibilities only.
Perfect

I think I’d go Grimes for a couple of years and hope one of the youngsters cement themselves as a leader in that time and can take over from Grimes then .

I just don't know why chimp steps down if we hand the reigns to Grimes. Unless it was chimp's unilateral decision and we wanted him to stay on (could be). My guess is that chimp steps down to bring forward a younger leader.

I voted Dusty.

I think a few have fallen into the trap of misjudging and underestimating his level of sophistication. On field there’s no question he is a leader. No question. He is a much deeper thinker than many have given him credit for -my gut feel is meetings wouldn’t really perturb him as much as some think. He‘d do those his way regardless. He’s fronted media much more competently later in his career. Besides, I have no problem with him being his own person and own style of captain in that regard anyway. I think he’d bring something unique and special to captaincy as he has a player. He loves his teammates and always credits and encourages them and yet leads in front by example. He makes things happen when the game needs to be turned like few can. He committed to the club in a massive way and - provided he wants it - i think he’s more than deserved it.

I’m a bit unsure of Vlaustin‘s sophistication to be captain.

Grimes, Jack R and Edwards would be safe choices. Jack being the best media performer we have.

Lynch would be a solid choice and my next preference after Dusty.

Graham possibly VC

My nomination for ‘way out of left field smokey’ is the 25 year old Short.

I'm going Vlastuin with Graham as a VC.
Extended VC group around them though of Nank and Grimes.

If Short backed up his 2020 year with a similar year I would tend to agree. Problem for Short though his his 2021 reverted to the defensively suspect Short and his disposal went backwards exponentially.

How many goals did he miss with his handball receive around 50m? I can't recall him kicking one in 2021 and missed a few at key stages

Grimes as Captain, Nick Vlas and Jack G as VC's. Dustin into leadership group (if he wants)

Less pressure on replacing Cotch, and gives hopefully a couple of years for Vlas and Jack to enhance leadership qualities for either one to take over.

Jack Graham to pick up where Cotchin left off. Right attitude, experience and proven big match performer.

I’d have JR8, Grimes and Nankervis in the leadership team.

I was thinking along those lines BT, however no cub stands out to me as Captain material, however I have SFA idea what goes on behind close doors , I think to often we link Captains to best players , I myself was never a Captain :))
