Just knew at the time that his injury was gonna impact our season. For as good a ruckman Nank is he can't do the heavy lifting for an entire season like Ivan can.

Pretty sure there was some media commentary around a little while ago about young Soldo keeping Nank out of the side n Nank being unhappy about it. When we finally paired the boys properly it was a pretty good ruck combo with just the right amount of nasty beast mode to make our mids job that little bit easier.
Soldo goes down with a knee n Nank cops some injury niggles plus we lose the ruck beast mode, top this off with midfielder injury problems n it's no surprise that we struggled with clearances and forward delivery all year.

Pleased that Soldo got a 3 year deal, club obviously believes he'll be fine.

I hope we can field a fully fit and sound Soldo/Nank against an equally ready Gawn/Jackson next year. (I believe in rapid knees after I see them.) The best of our duo is good enough.

Yep our boys would have their way with the glamour ruck duo from the Demons. (especially if they win this year)

While Gawn and Jackson would be probably the most talented combo we have seen for while I don't reckon anyone would try and steal a souva from Nank or Soldo.

For mine, the ruck is no place for blokes who think they can play.

one of my many favourite moment with Soldo, was the prelim final against geelong. Pariff charged Soldo but just bounced off him landing on his back with amazement. Soldo is a beast and with beast master Nank there beside him, they do make a very good combination. They are different, however, they are effective.

No footy on this weekend so I re watched this game yesterday. Poor little Partfit thought he'd run into a brick wall.

This game reminded me of the moments in time that my simple opposition dislike of Clench shifted up to disgust n loathing rapidly followed by total disdain. Funny thing is that Clench brought it all on himself by his pathetic behaviour.

In early 2019 Hardwick realised that Nank was getting jumped all over at centre bounces and that we were giving away far too many cheap clearances to the opposition.
Enter big Ivan and suddenly he was shoving it down his teammates throats. Dusty bought the silverware and Ivan plated it up.
There were many on here ( me included ) that suggested that Ivan had assumed the number 1 ruck position from Nanks.
Of course we didn’t probably appreciate the mongrel fight and determination in Nanks to wrestle it back with super human efforts, particularly in big games.
And of course the injury to Soldo gave us no alternative.
But one thing is for sure. Big Ivan is no poor man’s second choice.

On the subject of our ruckmen, I couldn't find a thread for our most recent ruck acquisition, being Mate Colina. He is of course a category B rookie and is 213 cm tall. I was so looking forward to seeing him play in the VFL this year but sadly he was not sighted the whole year. Our VFL team played in 10 games this year but he did not appear in any of them, to my knowledge. He apparently had his first training run at the club on 19/5/2021. As it stands at present, our only genuine ruckmen backups to Nankervis and Soldo are Samson Ryan (1 senior game) and Mate Colina (2 senior games). On 18/6/2021 there was an announcement on the RFC website that Colina would be playing his first VFL game on 20/6/2021 against Williamstown. They put out the team lineup and he was named in the team. The game was televised live. I was looking forward to seeing him play in that game but at the start of the TV coverage, when the RFC team was put up on the screen, there was no mention of him. The commentators did not comment on why he was not in the team or whether he was a late withdrawal. To my knowledge, there has been no mention by the RFC of Colina since 20/6/2021 and he has never appeared on the club injury list. The VFL team played a few more games after 20/6/2021. Does anyone know just what happened to Colina this year that he did not make any appearance on the field and the club went silent on him?. I don't know if he was still training at the club.

I'm pretty sure he has one more season to play in Hawaii before he can focus on AFL. Not sure what happened this year during the break why he didn't play. I was also looking forward to it. Trying to find info on the uni web site looks like the season starts Nov and runs to March. Hopefully he doesn't get an NBA or European bball offer that will derail us.

I vaguely remember Colina had an injury at some stage of the season. Perhaps he had a niggle and they pulled the pin at the last minute?

That sounds familiar to me too, I remember watching that game on TV and hearing something. Pity, would have been good to see him play.

The Cubs , I.e Dow, RCD, MartYn are going to love roving to Ivan , they won’t have experienced tap work like it before . I’m not a Ruck enthusiast, however think we have a superb combo in Ivan and the Nank , that’s as tough as it gets, both brutes who enjoy smashing the opposition, though both capable of kicking goals I think will see them rotate of the bench more then rest forward . I’m not sure I’ve seen Ivan let another Ruck have an easy day in the hit outs .Grimes an co will both love having them both back too, both really good at getting back and helping the defence out.

Mate`s issue was knee tendonitis I believe?

Yep. They are a very effective duo. Soldo tires them out and Nank knocks them down. Anyone would hate to ruck for ten minutes against Soldo, only to watch Nank come off the bench to take his place.
