2021 Draft Thread

I reckon we should be trading up if we can if that means we can secure what we believe to be an A grade mid. I don't think we can get them at 7...because that will actually will be pick 9.

A grade mids are typically in the top 3, sometimes the top 6-7. So I reckon snagging an A grade mid is highly unlikely at 9. Yes you can jag one at pick 28 if you get really lucky, but more likely its top 5i'sh pick. Just looking at the current grand finalists, Bont P4, Macrae P6, Petraca P2, Oliver P4 - the Tiges Dusty P3, Cotch P2...its fairly predictable. The top 5 in this years Brownlow were also all top 5 picks.

I presume the A grade mid we are after at P3 (that will be P5) is Finn Callaghan ...he looks like less smooth version of Pendles in his highlights, but does have that time and space dynamic that many good mids possess. I have seen him compared to Jared Polec though - which makes me throw up in my mouth a little.

Anyway when are we going to be a better chance? If we are lucky enough to have some sustained success, this will be our best draft hand for a long while. So we must make hay whilst the sun shines.

Lukac's an overager (19) and a big lad. I don't rate him.
Fair enough but being a few months older than some of the other prospects is hardly a point of difference when talking about key tall's.
If anything they're one year closer to peak performance.
My thoughts are purely this, has good hands and performed in the finals, these types are high in my book.
No chance of going early in the draft so won't hinder if we chase mids early.

Having all these picks is great but we need the list spots to accommodate them.

ATM I think we only have 4 spots.

Out:
CCJ
Chol
Astbury
Houli
Naish

In:
Tarrant
Reckon Garth & Eggs go as well. Six in. Taz plus five.

We end up with 5 picks instead 40 after trades.

List sizes were reduced from 47 to 44 for this season, I think they go back to 47 for next season.

Really good point. To use a pun. He plays deep out of the goal square so a lot of his shots are close to goal and he kicks a lot on the run close to goal as well. Having said that, I’ve seen him kick a few off the boundary, both set and run, so you’d say he kicks pretty darn well but I reckon this whole accuracy thing is a bit overblown given how close he is a lot of the time.

He kicked a beauty off the boundary on the run from about 45 v SA a few weeks ago and I’ve seen him drop them over the goal line easily from that range so yeah, depth isn’t an issue. Just reckon the accuracy thing is a tad overblown given a lot of close proximities.

Still, ya gotta bake ‘em to make ‘em. And he does.

Didn’t you think Gary Ablett jnr was going to be average though ?

So is there a big upgrade in talent between pick pick 3 or 4 and 7 and 8
If this was the Melbourne cup
None has got a clue on form.
I rather miss a player at pick 3or4 but i would shattered if 3 or 4 quality kids are picked between pick 13 and 30. Where we hold 4 picks in that region

He was good. Real good. Cruelled by Wallace and Jonah fans like yourself bagging him (and others) out relentlessly. You even hated Richo.
If me bagging out RFC players was an issue we’d have folded by 2009.
Richo is my favorite Tasmanian of all time. You however need to be deported back there.
Lol I can remember your Meyer fanboy days.

I read several articles when Naish got delisted, that Eggy also got delisted but haven't seen anything official, so guess he's still on the list.
I do however think that Egg and Garthwaite will be delisted. That will give us 6 picks I reckon we take 5 picks to the draft and leave one for PSD, mid-season draft

We could use all 6 picks but I guess it all depends if we snag dogs first pick, Norths pick 20 which could well give us 6 picks under pick 30

What are your thoughts on how many picks we may use? Go in and use them all, or leave one till later.

*smile* 12 possessions off half back.
properly the easiest part of the ground to play these days.
What's our obsession with Smurfs and Half Backs/ forwards

189 cms/82 kgs, Finn is a good runner. Smooth mover, strong overhead and has silky skills, what's not to like?
