Blair Hartley's view:

Can the Tigers challenge again in 2022?
“We are pretty confident we can. Not a lot went right for us this year and we are just looking forward to getting the guys back. We are pretty excited about the development time we can get into our guys, even pre-Christmas and seeing them jump again.

Young players to watch:
"It's the emergence of some of our young guys, like Collier-Dawkins, Ross and Dow and Ralphsmith and Maurice Jr, Samson Ryan."

Source: AFL website
Don't get me wrong DA, I desperately hope that some of the younger boys can have breakout yrs in 2022.....particularly with the benefit of an extended pre-season. However, based on exposed form, we need to plan for worst case scenarios.

Jack will retire next year, or at least probably should, Lynch is 30 next year, and I have question marks on how long his body is going to last.
Grimes will be 31, Tarrant 33. Miller and Biggy have big question marks on them, probably more so than RCD, Ross, Dow and Martyn.
You don't think we need a key forward and defender in this draft?
So as of today 28 year old Tom lynch who plays all next season as a 29 year old.

I reckon Sonsie is the most fluid and natural non preferred side of his body junior I’ve ever seen. He’s totally seamless using his left side. Even the best players eg Dusty look to go on their preferred side first for a split second before going non preferred. But not this kid. He just moves and uses whatever side he wants to naturally, at any time.

But there’s something not quite right with Sonsie. There’s something holding him back a bit with clubs I get the sense. Thought Staedler Twomey was almost gonna drop it in that podcast but he pulled himself up. Think I know what it is but have absolutely no proof what so ever. Just a 6th sense.

This kinda 6th sense...? :D

Agree but there has to be realistic expectation that the player will succeed at the level.
In a perfect result I have us taking Johnson and Rachele, with our first two picks and then Van Rooyen and Bazzo, with our second rounders.
Of course that result is at long odds, but after those two (talls) have gone, I’d be going back to best available.
Size matters but ….

I think that combination would be a stretch, totally with you on Johnson, nice looking prospect and one we would have to nab straight after Freo's first pick which incidentally will probably be Rachele. No way Johnson slips past West Coast so you have to take at 7.

Cracking interview with Hobbsie this morning. Sounds like a ripping kid. Guess he’d have to be given he’s a Tiges fan.
Clarke wouldnt be able to call his name out quick enough if Hobbs was available at our pick.

Screams Richmond man.

Van Rooyen is actually the best type of player you can pick at 26, I picture him in a Heath Grundy role but there is some scope for him to become an Oscar Allen type threat in the forward line. Bazzo made him look amateurish so there's that to consider but his floor is high & he has some real competitiveness about him. In order to nail this draft I think assessing players floors is just as important as projecting their ceilings. For example, I like Goater more than Sonsie because his floor is good, pick 15 roughly the range you start picking off rebounding defenders so the upside can be seen as a bonus and not a make or break situation. Sonsie projects as a more boom/bust type, I think with these picks we must ensure we're adding core players, no room for stuff ups. In saying that, I like Sonsie & I like his dual sidedness and acceleration from the contest. The upside is really good for pick 15, probably too much downside for pick 7. If Goater is off the board then Sonsie would be the player I take.
Bazzo made him look amateurish??? Think your bias may be affecting you vision. Who else would take Bazzo before VR. Not knocking your opinion just your fervour in pushing it.

Bazzo kept him goalless, how is my vision being affected?

Think you have totally misconstrued my point, as a forward DVR has major question marks. Think I've made my case pretty clear, DVR will go in the 15-25 bracket so he is out of reach and yes I would take him ahead of Bazzo but if you are selecting him as a forward then there's an element of shooting blind, not sure how he goes against the best defenders.

I share your concerns Tigerman.
We will seriously need to pull the proverbial out of our a$$ next year at the trade table.
We have Biggy, Miller and Ryan as developing talls.
When Jack retires next year we will have Lynch as our sole tall forward.
Not sure Ryan is a power forward. Ruck/Forward at best.
Next year will be tough.
But we’ll have plenty of midfielders.

I would try to swap our picks 26, 38 for Freo's 22, our picks 28 & 40 for WB's 23 = 7,15,22,23.. have a spare 83 for a project player

Totally fine with that trade, puts us in a good spot to get DVR.

Goater's leap & sprint time = 80cm & 2.92sec (good numbers)

Freo need 22 for the Clark trade unless they buckle and hand over pick 19 to the Cats.

Absolutely a stretch.
What do you think about both of the talls in round 2
and going back to best available if both go earlier?

The two players I like are DVR & Bazzo although I'd probably only take one given the depth really is with the midfielders. I think Zac Taylor will surprise many, good skills & can get involved in scoring chains. There's a touch of x-factor about the way he plays, can get elevated and was a deserving winner of Calder's B&F. In any other draft he probably features in the first round. Roberts is another who may well drift & it's one of the reasons I would take a tall mid early, seems to be some good options in the twenties with the 180cm guys, you could throw in Butler as well.
