2021 Draft Thread

Got a feeling Jay Amiss will be there at our pick have to grab him.
Nah. I reckon Freo will grab him just before us and then take either Erasmus or Johnson (whichever we don't pick if we happen to pick one of them).

They want a Key Forward and Mid combo so won't risk it.

If they rate Amiss and believe we rate him for sure that's the likely outcome. However if they don't rate Amiss, or don't think we rate Amiss - but they do rate one of those mids over the other - or both mids more than Amiss or think we rate one of the mids they like more..then it can go a completely different way!

Maybe the case what about Van Rooney at 15 mate or Williams at one of our twentiespick .Williams is a interesting project.

He played two SANFL seniors games, 13 disposals in each, 1 tackle in each, 96% disposal efficiency.

He played 16 SANFL reserves games, average 18.2 disposals, DE 91%, 5 goals total at 45%, 1.9 tackles, 2.8 inside 50s, 1.1 clearances, 1.1 rebound 50s.

Best of 30 disposals v Sturt, and had 21 in 70-point elimination final loss.

Article on Wests website in January said he was 19 then.

I was wondering from his highlight reel,

if either

1. he was getting 30 disposals in the seniors, or
2. every single disposal was highlight worthy.

it seem it was 2.

96% efficiency against men! its because he has the pace and astonishing evasion to remove all pressure.

but even when hes under pressure, last resort, he hits a handball to a bloke in a paddock.

must be some reason hes not already on a list?

Two seasons in the NTFL but this was his first in the medium smoke.

What's the catch? Haven't seen stats like that since Caleb Daniel.

to my eye, hes as exciting as $hai Bolton was (albeit $hai was 17). different, but as exciting.

says he has a tank too.

surely Clarke has a Fijo file?

Must do but I'm curious as to why he's not a media darling? Looks a better player than Draper from the naked eye.

he could be a throw back smokey?

he looks better than every X factor player in the pool to me.

from the media reports, doesnt seem like the cliche racist 'troubled' excuse could be applied.

he seems professional, hardworking, from a good family and committed to footy?

I'm putting him in my top 30, just feel the senior exposure & the elite disposal efficiency pushes him into the top tier.

Herald Sun have got a mock top 30 draft.

They have us doing a live trade with the Crows - pick 6 and 33 to Richmond for picks 9 and 17, plus a swap of future second-round selections.

Pick 6 - Ben Hobbs

Pick 27 - Jack Williams

Pick 28 - Angus Sheldrick

Pick 29 - Blake Howe

I'd be ok with that - two inside mids, a tall swingman and a pacy outside mid/winger with good skills.

this may be the way to go. I'm concerned in drafting too many this year, our recent success (Trent, Nick, Dusty, Brendan Ellis,) we have pick one main player who will perform, having 4 to 5 players along with our younger players already on our list, we may not be able to give them all game time (which they need). This will affect our long term strategy. Plus we have older players who will keep playing for the next 2 to 3 years, this may explain why Richmond went big with north with swaps. We need to bank some for next year

I would be pretty bummed out with that scenario, start with 5 picks in the top 30 and end up with 1 (the bids will force our picks out to the thirties). Aim should be to get 3 picks in the top 20. No way Hobbs is a better selection than Johnson plus Goater/Sonsie

no way that happens

after Pick4, throw a blanket over 15 players, any of which could be bonafide stars, with little between them, and arguments and excuses for all of them, we need to spread the risk.

Amiss, Hobbs, Ward, Milera, Sinn, Goater, Andrew, Rochelle, Sonsie, Chesser , Johnson, Erasmus, Draper, JVR, Gibcus

Also reckon we will end up with a very good chance of jaggin a couple of players with our 20s picks too.

Macdonald, Brown, Wilmot, Williams, Bazzo, Knevitt, Aleer, Taylor, Butler, Motlop, Sheldrick. Howes Long Roberts to name but a few

The more I think about this, the more I think we are beautifully positioned to get a mix of quality players, tall and small.

We don't need to trade anything to anyone unless its clear overs.

you'll be etched in PRE folklore as the poster who found Ronny Fejo jr.
Very impressive highlights, he looks too good to be true, what's the catch ?? I know he is older that most of the draftees but he is very hard to ignore on that footage.

Can only assume that with the name Ronald, the recruiters are assuming he's 70 years old.
