Why hasn’t Rachele gone on to play midfield since under 16’s? He won the Vic MVP at the under 16 carnival averaging 26 touches

Ive never seen him play,

but read that he's a real burst player and lacks a bit of consistency of effort for the midfield.

I don't see this as a knock really; some players simply play in bursts and saying to them to

'do more bursting', whilst aspirational, isn't that realistic? especially when the bursts produce multiple goals.

funny word, burst.

Yeah Sinns an interesting one. Could really go anywhere.

On Sonsie - For all the fan boys, what are his knocks? Is it his application? Does he have that real aggression for the ball/contest/physicality that gun onballers need. Will he take the hit.

Is that a ? mark at all.

How the *smile* is he being compared to the player with the greatest locks in the game?

For me from a long way it's a few things that those closer to the picture can answer

1) Size - 181 and 78 kgs. He's between Dion Prestia and Trent Cotchin. Not huge, he's great in traffic but slight.
2) Durability- Has missed a bit of footy with various soft tissues and ankle injury.
3) Visibility of his best- there just hasn't been enough footy to see his best. And there have been games when he goes missing through injury.

If he had three more games where he showed his best I've no doubt he's in that 5-12 conversation.

Cheers mate.

It opens up a good point on this draft. With the lack of footy this year think it will sort the wheat from the chaff with recruiting teams.

Those that go heavily off stats from limited games and/or over analyse or put too higher weighting on the one or two rep games could mess their rankings up. You only need to see the focus and discussion on here about a scratch match back in April between the AIS and a VFL team.

Reckon it's a great year for the recruiting teams that have that keen eye for what a player might become purely from knowing what a good AFL footballer looks like traits wise.

Great point, Daisy.

We’ve seen in past years that there have been many players who have improved dramatically and soared up the rankings, based on their last 10 games or so. Stephen Hill, Bontempelli, Clayton Oliver, Serong and Kossie Pickett all come to mind. Most Victorian kids haven’t even played ten games in the last two years.

Form is not going to be much of an indicator this year. Key position players, in particular, are going to be really difficult to place. Decent key forwards with little exposed form are going to be available late to canny recruiters.

Johnson, Hobbs & Sonsie, call me a dreamer but this would make for a sensational draft.

Twomey floating on the podcast that Richmond haven't had much to do with Hobbs since April.

And Butler, Wilmot drifting into the 20's, Sonsie in 15-25 range.

I reckon Leysy might be onto something, Hobbs at 15 still a chance, particularly if Ward goes to Hawthorn as expected.

One week before draft night, here's my phantom tigers mock draft. I’m not including any possible trades on the night.
Decided on doing 3 options, this is purely based if a certain player has already been taken.

9 – Hobbs – Midfielder (183cm/80kg)
17 – Jacob van Rooyen - Forward/defender (193cm/91kg)
28 – MacDonald – Midfielder (184cm/77kg)
29 – Howes - Forward/midfielder (190cm/79kg)
30 – Knevitt – Midfielder (193cm/81kg)

9 – Gibcus - Key defender (196cm/87kg)
17 – Sonsie – Midfielder (181cm/77kg)
28 - Taylor - Midfielder (180cm/74kg)
29 - Knevitt – Midfielder (193cm/81kg)
30 – Clarke – Small Forward (179cm/70kg)

9 – Erasmus - Midfielder/forward (190cm/82kg) OR Johnson - Midfielder (192cm/81kg)
17 – Butler - Midfielder/forward (184cm/76kg)
28 – MacDonald – Midfielder (184cm/77kg)
29 – Howes - Forward/midfielder (190cm/79kg)
30 – Sheldrick – Midfielder (179cm/84kg)

Zero chance Hobbs gets outside of the top 10. Zero.

Ward is the one that could drift especially if the Hawks go Gibcus.

I like it BH but we would need to convert two of our 20's picks into an early teens pick for that to happen.
I'm open to that situation as I reckon we can strike a counterbalance by picking up some value state leaguers or sliders like Dittmar or Browne. That midfield sets us up for the next decade, Hobbs the perfect compliment to Johnson's finishing skills, Sonsie provides the dash & craftiness. As for the other picks, Dean I want but there are some others who could provide some value. I note Draft Central has Schlensog in their top 50 so he's clearly still in the frame.

Well, I think Ward suits Hawthorn better than Hobbs, they already have plenty of inside mids. Johnson has also been linked to the Hawks.
