2021 Draft Thread

With Rioli, Stack and Mansell showing great signs in defence late in the season, and all being young, not sure we had a need for a small running defender. Hopefully he can transition into the midfield.
He is not small. Will be 188-190cm so end up being Broad size.

Could very well transition to a Wing

yeah think we'll have to trade to get one of Johnson or Sonsie.

27 and 28 should get it done you reckon?

then we take one of Mcdonald, butler, ronny,

would round out a very good haul.

My Ideal: Gibcus, Brown, Sonsie, McDonald + Rookie Ronny
I hope Ronny is a Tiger just for you man ........... your support and fervor have been as Big Rexy would say "Maaaaaaaaaaagggggnificent!!!

Yep it also gives us enormous flexibility with two x young 195cm athletic gazelle's (Balta)

Really doubt both end up long term key backs. We'll trial them up the ground at times and one will switch forward ILO.

both have incredible mitts and big kahunas too.

pure footy gold

You words "All well and good, but when we are getting creamed in the midfield even with our best players, this aint the path we needed to take."

What on earth does getting creamed in the midfield mean, if it ain't bad news?

So now its bad news and not a forecast of doom for the season? If you cant handle someone elses opinion without resorting to labeling them or frankly childish self harm jibes then I cant help you.

I stand by the point that you've made a huge statement on our midfield, before you've even seen what it will look like next year. Going way to early.

How did our midfield go this year? We got creamed and the stats show this even if you dont want to see it or admit. Now you might say injuries? Well how is another year going to help with our ageing core?

If Hobbs was going to be the one guy that turns the midfield around from getting creamed to not being creamed (because we still have three picks but they're irrelevant from your statement) then we weren't going to be winning a flag next year anyway.
I didnt say this so dont try and put these words as mine.

Do better.

The only midfielders we haven't already found replacements for on potential are Trent and Dusty.

Picks 2 & 3.

I wouldn't expect the 4th or 5th best midfielders in a Covid draft to be in the same category myself.

We picked the #1 defender and a Richmond prototype, and we still have a surplus of 3 additional 2nd rounders in the bank (including next year's).
What I was inferring is that if Johnson and Sonsie are the best mids left (for example) maybe our club think the tier behind them will close the gap or that the gap itself is insignificant enough to take a non-mid with pick 18.

Wasn't inferring they were replacing Cotchin and Martin is a once in a generation type player. No one can replace him.

Bubkus look super impressive. Not only is he tall, athletic and a great leap, but he seems to have great reading of the flight and anticipation of the drop zone, which is the number 1 skillset required to be a gun key position player. If he's not marking the ball he knows how to nullify the contest and bring the ball to ground. Reckon he can do a McNaughton and become a key forward.

Once again, you've made a statement you think our midfield will get "creamed" next year. My point, we've got three picks, we've got players to be developed, and we may have a new game plan. All a bit to early to be hitting the panic button.

2021 is in the history books. We have no idea what we'll do to address the stand rule, etc. If we show up with an identical game plan, I'd be surprised.

Clearly, you think we should be drafting midfielders to address the concern. How are first year players going to turn the horror of this year by themselves?
Feel free to keep going. I'm going to enjoy thinking of the possibilities our new Tigers give us.

I reckon things are delicately poised, you would hope we're working behind the scenes to get hold of Freo's pick, that will be Johnson no doubt. Hawthorn will take Sonsie, I'm pretty certain. That leaves Taylor. McDonald & Goater perhaps. I could live with that haul, I might be tempted to give it an A. Will it happen? Probably not but this draft has been highly unpredictable.
What would we need to give up for Freo’s pick? It’s worth a fair bit considering what’s left on the board?

Looking at the next block of picks, we pick 8-10 of the next group of picks.

If I was tipping where players go, I'd go.

21 - Freo - Johnson
22 - North - Motlop - reckon we could trade for this pick
23 - Hawthorn - Sonsie (this is why I think we should trade for Norths pick)
24 - Geelong - Knevitt
25 - Geelong - Conway
26 - Hawthorn
27 - Carlton
28-30 - Richmond

Hawks / Carlton could go for various players but lets say they go with Draper and Goater then there are some terrific picks there.

I've crossed out those which I think go in the next 5 picks. Plenty of good players on there. 3 mids or 2 mids and Bazzo would be great. I've been big on MacDonald for a while now, so would love to get him with one of those picks. Butler or Taylor and then Bazzo or Howes would be a really good return.

Surely Freo can’t pick Johno - 3 locals - that’s a bit incestuous

They must be dancing over there and I can’t see them trading that away - what would it take - our first next year (pick 18 :)) maybe.

Hobbs was a good choice but Gibcus is better has he's the most complete talented defender , clearly a gun in the making whom has a amazing leap, high pick defenders with class generally become elite AFL defenders

Two picks in the twenties, I want guarantees & I'd be willing to pay for it. By my reckoning we'll get one of Butler, McDonald, Goater. Howes or Taylor with the pick remaining. That's a very impressive draft.
