Years ago I once read that Richmond kicked 19 goals in a row in the 1969 First Semi Final.
The official quarter-by-quarter scores indicate that that is mathematically possible, but I had never seen any video of the game to confirm it.
A complete video of the game has just been posted on YouTube and confirms it's true.
Doug Wade kicks Geelong's second goal at 6:24 when we have one goal, and also kicks their third at 1:29:43 right on the three-quarter time siren when we have 20.
Quite a historical piece of video that I have never seen before.

Always wanted to see this game. Thanks for finding it, mate.

I remember listening to it on the radio. I would have been 10 at the time and it blew my mind. How could I not love the Tigers after that?

I guess it was replayed on TV that night but it would have been an edited highlights package of some sort, probably a couple of quarters and a few more highlights.

Never seen it in any form since. I probably listened to it on 3KZ with the Captain and the Major, and had no idea what was happening anyway.

I was at this game. I certainly don’t recall the 19 goals in a row, but remember we won comfortably.
The vivid memory for me is Kevin Murray, Brownlow Medallist, doing his lap of honour and the ovation he received from the crowd. “Bulldog” was a crowd favourite and a very popular player.
Must have a look for the game on YouTube too. Thanks for posting.

Wow, this has been unobtainable for many years. There was a short bit of footage which appeared last year but no more than that (L2R2R posted something about it and lamented that the full game has never been available). Wonder where someone found this, a truly amazing find.

Will download and watch it, always wanted to see this game. Must still be one of the biggest winning margins in a final.

Thanks.

This is the first game I remember really strongly. Obviously Mike Green was BOG as he was also for the Grand Final that year.

My younger brother, a Cats supporter was traumatized for years.

I can still recite the 1969 premiership team - I think the same as the 1st Semi Final.

19th and 20th men, Graham Bond and Rex Hunt.

Indeed!

I have the Footy Record of each game of the ‘69 Finals.

A truly memorable year.

I think I’ve commented before about Peter Pianto being upbraided on WOS the following day when he suggested there was not 20 goals difference between VFL teams, when one of the commentators reminded him that Richmond also beat Footscray by a similar amount in the H&A season.

While the GF stands alone, let’s not forget the match at Princes Park when having to beat Carlton to make the four, Hafey switched Bugsy Barrot to FF after half time. Lofts was the state FB and Barrot kicked six un the second half. The Tiger Army stood as one in the middle of the ground at game’s end in happy delirium.

A similar switch with Billy occurred in the GF. #24 was BOG for mine!

Happy to take copies of the Records for diehards like me.

Ps: each final was watched while standing on empty steel beer cans in the Standing Room area of Section R of the outer stand with my dad who’d knock off work in Albert St, East Melbourne on a Saturday at lunchtime.

LMFAO I've been telling a similar story for years , I've just done a Wikki on the '69 season and realised I've got my story slightly wrong
my first live game of VFL was 2nd Semi , Rich v Carl , 1967, standing room City end goals , and the steel beer can thing I was 7
I've been telling people '69 , obviously after the game in '67 I followed on radio and tv
in 1970 the family went to see Preston in the VFA on Sunday's
and from 71 we did the double Richmond on Saturday, Preston on Sunday

I think I kept the records from the 74 finals series , but too many moves , long gone now
same with the autograph book

Awesome. This was before my time. But love seen this old stuff. Always surprised by the quality of footy played in those days.

That centre-line was apparently elite

Bourke - 18 kicks, 1 handball, 4 marks - 4 Goals
Barrot - 33 kicks, 2 handballs, 15 marks - 1 Goal, 4 behinds
Clay - 25 kicks, 1 handballs, 8 marks - 1 Goal
Total Centreline Stats - 76 Kicks, 4 handballs, 27 marks - 6 Goals

Yep they were ELITE!! :eyes

Hart - 28 kicks, 4 handballs, 11 marks.
All local traffic went through this Champion at Centre Half Forward, when he was on, no way we're losing, what a player.
He was 21 years old at the time, lol. Sheedy and Green also 21, Bourke and KB 22.

Nearly forgot, and shouldn't forget this, Royce Hart did National Service in Adelaide the whole 1969 season.

He travelled to Melbourne late in the week, played for the Tigers on Saturday's, returning to Adelaide the following day.

Imagine that preparation for your weekly game of football, for the whole season? Well, he helped greatly in winning the premiership, he made All-Australian and he won the club's Best & Fairest award.

Yep, What A Player!! :eyes

Yep indeed.

Royce also played the following week for Glenelg in ‘69 as a member of their premiership team IIRC.

Ha ha , they were good times both VFL & VFA , suburban football , emotional raw real
From Bobby Ireland having a smoke at 3/4 time to seeing Francis Bourke walk off Glenferie with a broken leg , todays game is so professional and politically correct

He was KO'ed early in the game and they got rolled.
Probably fair enough too. I loved Royce Hart as a player but if I was a Sturt fan I would not be all that happy about one of the best players in the country being roped into the Grand Final being his only game for the year.

They lost by 65pts unfortunately. Sturt had heard Royce was getting paid $2,000 for the game and Sturt players were non too pleased and 8 minutes in, he was a part of a meat sandwich. He got up concussed but played on and still did a fantastic job.

21 kicks, 10 marks, 2 goals.

Royce's memory - "I recall going in to pick up the ball and a couple of Sturt players came at me, one from the side, the other from head on. The next thing I remember, I was in the hands of the trainers. I got up, was handed the ball, tried to take my kick, but I couldn’t recollect any more after that.
At half-time in the dressing rooms, Alf Brown, football writer of the Melbourne Herald, came in to see me and I didn’t recognise him. So apparently I played the first half without knowing what was going on. During the interval, trainers worked on me with smelling salts and I came out for the second half with only a headache.
There were no reports from the incident, but there was quite an outcry for weeks later as to whether Sturt had been out to get me. It seemed accidental to me, but to thousands of fans who saw a replay on TV, it looked deliberate. Many claimed that I held the key to Glenelg’s premiership hopes, and held it to be too much of a coincidence for me to be knocked out in the first few minutes. From then on the result was never in doubt; Sturt went on to annihilate Glenelg.
At the time I was a National Serviceman stationed in Adelaide and under Australian National Football Council rules, I was given permission to play for Glenelg . . .
It was said that the two thousand dollars I received was the highest fee paid to a player for one match. You might ask was it worth it? Too right! I’d get in the ring with Cassius Clay and get knocked out a hundred times for that sort of money."
