Shane Edwards

Had great seats tonight on Level 2 to watch with Leysy's 9 y.o daughter who is as passionate about the Tiges as any of us.

Gave a great view how we're going about our team defence.

Apart from Chimp our midfield are like traffic cops waving the opposition through, but also Titch just can't transition anymore and unless the ball is in his hands is a liability when we're trying to defend.

Sad and hate saying it, but a real weakness in our team ATM.

Just a complete liability every where he plays the entire season,.... useless in the centre, can't lay or stick a tackle, and disposal is back to being very poor. Amazing how he is escaping scrutiny from anyone outside this forum.

The hubris is rearing its head in some unexpected ways. Selections have been horrible all year.
*smile*. Salary cap, draft picks. Angst over selections is just delusional wishful thinking that we had some more good players to select when injuries mount.

Not sure who I,d select before Shedda atm

Are Dow or RCD demanding to be selected?
Do we want aarts George or Parker before him?
For sure MoJu but he needs time to develop.

Suggest he don’t play and replace him with a orange witches hat on the F50 line
The hat would apply more forward pressure

I feel for him. He was absolutely a gun during our glory years and this year it's been a total disaster.
Not sure what others think it will be a very flat 300th.

290 games should have been the limit for Sheds. Not his fault, it's on the MC but will go out with a bit of shine taken off. Unfortunate but football at this level is a brutal sport!

So Edwards deserves to play because his form warrants it?

Sub next week against Freo & retirement game against Brisbane. Poorest season from a former champion player.
Shane has declined so unbelievably quickly these last 18 months.

Like others on this forum, I thought he'd be better, for longer.

But Shane is almost 34 and apart from Geelong and some Freo players (scatching head!), it looks a young man's game - so maybe it's understandable that he looks tired and unable to play out a game.

A personal observation I have from watching Shane these last few months, is that as sad as it is, you want to remember your champions still playing ok before they retire.
I'm glad Bachar and Dave retired last year - they were still playing ok/average rather than completely shithouse as Shane has been this year. It shouldnt be the case but there's a painful acceptance when they retire b/c you will miss them - but its better that there's something left in the tank.

It's why I am 100% convinced Trent is retiring.
Jack seems close to finishing up also - I thought he might play on. Maybe b/c I selfishly wanted Jack to play on. But these last few weeks, I am not so sure he will.

Yep, I'm sure he'll be remembered as that sublime reader of the play, and the handball that you don't notice at the game but blows your mind on the replay.

3 time premiership hero, and he contributed in every one significantly.

I don't wanna remember the passenger on display last night. Been poor all season.

It's an indictment on our development that there's nobody banging the door down to replace him.

Those who want to see him play should watch the replay from last night . There is no reason to play him . Very very poor . Those who are saying of play him for his 300 games should refer back to Mathew Rogers and his 197 games who we didn’t gift games to get to his 200

Pretty much most of those players before Sheds atm. Sheds has provided nothing and is defensively lame. It's pretty obvious why he is still getting games. 2 more games, he better be dropped after that or an explanation given as to why he's still playing.

Have been a backer of getting him to 300 but obviously his form has continued to slide to a level where he‘s become the 23rd ranked player at best.

Must be played as sub next game and ideally not get on the field at all. It would a waste of all the sacrifice made to date if he was to cop a 2 to 3 week injury at this stage.

It wouldn’t be any surprise that following his 300th game (which I will celebrate) he is “managed” out of the next couple - and either finishes his career with a late season VFL game - or perhaps a late season retirement.

I get your point but he’s been rubbish all year injuries or not. There are several reserves players who could get a run. Syd has been ignored all year(yes I know he is injured). You can’t carry players all year and expect finals. So are we structuring our whole year around a farewell parade for ailing and/or inadequate senior players?

We were being accused of hubris in 2020 and I thought it was bull *smile* but now I am seeing it. Being too clever by half in selection of underperforming coaches favourites (castagna, aarts), undisciplined senior players, dropping games through laziness, lack of system, lack of buy in etc etc. These are all indicators of arrogance.

I expect to be losing games after premierships but not like this, through stupidity and lack of effort.

It's time. All the oldies need to go.
Edwards and lambert yes but I’d be keeping Cotchin and Riewoldt as playing development coaches if their egos can take playing vfl or being rested a lot. I recon we can only afford to delist 6 at most and I have Edwards, lambert, Martyn, castagna and aarts on the block this year…

I’d love to know Balmey’s opinion on Edwards. He understands football better than anyone and would acknowledge the importance of culture and recognition etc … but he is also the ultimate pragmatist.
