Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

wasn't sure where to put this, but interesting there was no comment, no repurcussions, nothing from the Nick Daicos throw the head back stage attempt to get a free in front of goal. It was comical, and obvious to everyone what happened, ND was a bit sheepish. The reaction from everyone was a bit "come on mate you're pushing it a bit far"

Nothing against the kid, he's learning and doing his best, but it was as obvious a stage as you will ever see, ridiculous. You'd think someone would have at least commented on it considering the whole recent Ginnivan/ Weightman hype/ controversy? Can't help but wonder what the reaction would be if a Richmond player did it.

Is there still a fine for staging?

There was another comical one, forget which game or who. player tackled, both players end up on the ground on the boundary with ball locked in, the tackled player throws his head back a bit, this is after all motion had stopped as if he was thinking may as well have a go, and he gets the free!

im glad they didnt pay a free to Jack when he led his knees drop just a little, then lifted his arm to draw the high contact. it is just a pity they pay it every other time!

Everybody would be happy and this comment would be redundant if only he umpires interpreted the rules fairly and equally to both teams on the field of play. Sadly that is unlikely to ever happen so the comments will continue to grow

Didn't matter, but they were horrible. Just so so bad.

It's putting people off the footy.

2022 - the lowest standard of umpiring in memory

Flog blew whistle on Gibcus way too early for HTB in the 1st, and Prestia's 50 against was nothing short of an arrogant decision from this flog just after he reported Nank. Momentum swung too quick as has happened in other games this season.

Right in front of the umpire! Rhys Mathieson throw:

Umpire is right there. Looking straight at it. Nothing.

Footy is cooked.

Imagine if Manchester United were dominating and the EPL said "look they're too good, let's change a few rules. And that's ok, because we change the rules EVERY season"

There'd be uproar. Footy is on its knees. Thanks Gil and Shocking

Nothing to see here, AFL will confirm that this decision was completely correct, umpires never make mistakes and everything is above board.

No idea what people are complaining about, it was at least 20cm from the umpire, can't expect them to see anyeverything.

UMPIRES have been instructed not to pay free kicks to players who they believe are responsible for drawing high contact from tacklers.

The AFL's head of umpiring, Dan Richardson, said the rules would not reward players for

"putting themselves in vulnerable positions to draw a free kick".

"This is something we prefer not to see in our game at any level," he said.

Be interesting to see if they follow through on this considering that they’ve ignored it for the last decade.

it would be great if someone could ask why the change now, when Selwood, Shuey and others, including on occasion our own Dylan Grimes have done it for years.

This should actually be good for us, our “too high” tackling is pretty ordinary.

And on a completely unrelated note, Selwood has announced his retirement, effective immediately

just kidding :p

I imagine ducking into a tackle will be penalised for all except the serial 'duckers' at Geelong as they seem to be all immune to mere rules

Yeah, like the non-decision against Nank on the weekend.

They bring in a new directive to stop the Selwoods if the AFL and it's used against Nank of all people.
