Welcome Noah Cumberland

I'm excited. Based on his very small body of work, he looks to have the potential to be a star. 2 all-but gamebreaking moments in 2 games? Mad.

He has some size about his. When I say size I mean physically built. Has the ability to get the ball out even when tackled. Another preseason under his belt would do him wonders. His aim should be to be able to have stints in the midfield.
I’d only try him in the midfield when/if the goals dry up. Forwards that can consistently hit the scoreboard are very rare and VERY valuable.

Flexibility as a player is worth gold. Goals won’t dry up by pinch hitting in the midfield. If anything it will enhance him as a player. Think Shai. Think Dusty.

Nothing wrong with settling a player in one position either.
Look at Jamie Elliot. Don’t see him play midfield.
But wins games off his own boot

It's the genuine pace that has me super excited. His first few explosive steps of acceleration give him the separation to execute his skills. His knee surgeon did a fair job!

Plays a very difficult position and plays it very well.

The first thing to remember about the last play is that Cumberland found space to receive a mark. That is invaluable and hard to put too high a value on, our congested forward line is difficult. But, Cumberland found a little space to receive. Would like to see others do this more often.

Playing on would have been the wrong decision 15 minutes into the second quarter, let alone at the end of a game where scores are level. I can understand he wanted to crib a couple of metres to make sure he could make the distance, but, he needed to be more aware of where opposing players were. Clarke was still going from the contest, would have run the other way if Cumberland didn't play on so quickly, no question he was in the protected zone, the protected zone did not yet exist. Effectively a 3 game player at the moment, who lacks awareness? Yeah, that ain't news, awareness comes with experience. He does this in his 200th game I will be upset, he does it in his third game and he gets a pass. He will learn, comes across as a great reader of the play so I figure will learn.

Such a pity though. He would have dreamed of being able to win a game kicking after the siren and just blew the chance to do so.

Definitely needs to stay in the seniors, needs experience and huge upside.

No comparison with Aarts' brain fade, Aarts has more experience, the game had more time to go and we needed to slow the game down, and Aarts has way more experience. Cumberland can learn from this, Aarts should have already learned by this point in his career.

Spot on. Good analysis in the cold light of day.

Each time I watch this play I am so impressed with the amazing poise of Marlion in what he knew were the dying seconds.

The ressies are one game inside the 8 with 3 to go, should win at least 2 of the last 3. We'll get to see cumbers and MJR run around in finals.
If we miss the finals in the AFL, is there limit on the amount of AFL games played which prevents players playing in the VFL finals?

I think they have to have played a certain amount of VFL games to qualify for VFL finals, but happy to be corrected.

Shows he belongs and wills himself to win the ball and always full steam towards goal. Love him.

Yep, great presence of mind to get himself into the right spot by Cumberland, but it would have all been wasted effort if not for Marlion spotting him and nailing the pass. Kudos to Marlion.

I also like that he is already showing good signs off being able to play high half forward. Some creative long handballs when he gets high up on the wing and that sublime 45m pass from centre square to Aarts who ultimately stuffed it up.
Might have more strings to his bow than I thought?
I were 2 seconds away from posting before his debut that Noah lacks vision and is incapable of finding better options but decided to keep my powder dry till I saw him in the big league.
Only 2 games but you couldn't really ask for too much more except maybe converting a couple of those easy set shots.

Good to see Noah getting a game for what he can do, rather than not getting a game for what he supposedly can't do. Be nice for this to happen with a few other players.

Even if he took the set shot, the umps would have called play on due to his arc & side shuffle
