Meet Billy.
Remember when Mike Larkham did CH10 weather and did the "Give a Dog a Home" segment? Well little Billy is famous. My partners sister picked him up from the lost dog’s home after seeing him on TV.
But Billy used to be tormented by my partners 2 year old niece. She used to pick him up like a wheelbarrow. Billy didn't like this and responded by bitting her. My partners niece required plastic surgery and they deemed it inappropriate to keep Billy, so they handed him to my partners father.
my partners father loved Billy. They were very close, and Billy followed him everywhere. When we visited, I never really gave Billy any of my time. He smelt and was in need of a trim.
But in 2020, my partners father was in and out of hospital and Billy started staying with us.
Now I’ve never been a dog person because I always feared I would get too attached. Billy started off sleeping in the laundry. He still smelt and was in need of a trim. By around September 2020, my partners father had decided that he isn’t well enough to look after Billy and wanted us to keep him.
After that, I had decided the laundry was too small for him and I let him sleep in the lounge. By this time, I was becoming attached to him.
A week before Xmas in 2020, my partners father passed away. The night he died; my partner brought Billy to the bedroom to keep him close. He has slept in the bedroom ever since.
In January 2021, we took Billy to the vet because he hadn’t been in years. He needed 8 teeth removed. After the surgery, he had a reaction to the medication and was vomiting and had really bad diarrhoea. After a few days it came out in blood. I remember over 2 nights we were getting up every hour to check on him. every time there was vomit or poo. We were beside ourselves.
After a couple more vet visits and a change of medication, things settled down. But by that time, we were completely devoted to him. Billy came first, unconditionally. We made a commitment to ensure he lived out his finals years as happy as possible.
Due to this commitment, my partner will not travel while Billy is still alive. She feels that he has been abandoned 3 times in the past (and was abused by his original owner). She doesn’t trust anyone to look after him, not even for a night.
In September 2021, I took him to the vet for another check-up. We never knew his age. After my partners sister rescued him 10- years ago, they microchipped him and put his age down as 5. We believe that was a guess and reckon he’s about 13 now.
I asked the vet about his life expectancy. He said we needed to be realistic as he’s a senior citizen. He’s losing his hearing and his eyesight. He’s not walking a lot. But if you look after him, maybe 1-2 years.
I went home and bawled my eyes out.
Anyway, we think Billy is doing very well atm. He seems happy. We try not to leave him on his own for long periods of time. He can’t walk down the stairs anymore because of his eyes and he sleeps a hell of a lot. But we are hopeful he will be around for a while yet.
Thanks for sharing, their love is unconditional.View attachment 16103

Yeh she does not like to be beatenSparkles looks to have the determination of Marlion too.
Should nominate for the National Draft then. We need a tenacious, small forward.Yeh she does not like to be beaten
She is still getting over the move to Darwin, I don’t recon she’d cope in the cold south. Needs a cardigan if it gets below 20!Should nominate for the National Draft then. We need a tenacious, small forward.
Or a pullover, which is what she was saying to that Dingo. She is still getting over the move to Darwin, I don’t recon she’d cope in the cold south. Needs a cardigan if it gets below 20!
No problem. We allow long sleeve jumpers. She is still getting over the move to Darwin, I don’t recon she’d cope in the cold south. Needs a cardigan if it gets below 20!
She’d be begging pies in the forward pocket. Started her career begging sandwiches from tourists at Warmun Art Centre (turkey creek) where my partner used to workNo problem. We allow long sleeve jumpers.
Again, no problem. Trainers run out with a pork sausage after every goal she kicks. She’d be begging pies in the forward pocket. Started her career begging sandwiches from tourists at Warmun Art Centre (turkey creek) where my partner used to work
