Round 21 - the fart from a 15 y.o. dog games.

There's so much 2017 RFC about it. The connection and trust.

I just can't believe a team with 106% can be 2nd on the ladder this late in the season. Their program must be very good efficiency and finishing is top notch. We could do with a little of that. Luck has a bit to do with it but I reckon they work very hard on it too.
I’m curious as to when a team that was 2nd on the ladder this late in the season had such a low %

Nobody knows coz nobody cares Legs.

To put that into perspective, we had the BEST % in the AFL at the end of the 2018 home and away season. By a mile. How’d that work out in the end ? (WCE had the 4th best %. )

In 2019 we had the 5th best %. Go figure.

Make the finals as high up as you can go to max your chances …and thereafter it’s game on.

The late free against Petrecca was very stiff.

On Jackson, he is an outstanding prospect but it is true that he has regressed a little this year.
Yes, umpire probably could not see that he actually did get a fist to the HB; but I see 'Pendles' continually allowed to get away with incorrect disposals - just ignored. He's such a protected species and is continually questioning or advising the umps but doesn't get done for dissent; or maybe just once that I've noticed.

If Pendles played for us they'd bring in a rule so you can't talk to umps. Kudos to him though, the umps are too slow to call play on once the player swings out off his line, everyone knows it, its because they want more long goals, or 'Dusty moments'. Pendlebury being in the umps face about it exposes the farce that it is.

Any chance he could get a last minute gig at the cats then?
My regressive (if I could only turn back time) dream would be for Eddie and Bucks to stay at the Pies, and maybe Dimma have said to RFC, "OK, I've had enough success and need a sabbatical (with the new squeeze), see you in a year or two ... perhaps."

So we appoint Fly McCrae as new coach and Leppa his offsider. Hence we remain at the cutting edge reaching 2nd on the ladder and main threat to the 'invincible' cats, giving ourselves a last, threatening chance at another flag to culminate a glorious era for club and champion players.

It's absolutely killing me that we have allowed the club to lose and provided some of our brilliant coaching personnel - along with all our Intel - to the Skunks. It feels almost as bad as the horrible days of when Cloke and Raines walked out to Vic Park to destroy one of our former great eras.

# And it's not helping my tranquility that Dimma (if true) is taking a much greater slice of the $$$ action since he thinks he's so responsible for our success. That's someone allowed to think they're bigger than the club in my book. IMO, this success was a whole team and club process/endeavour and achievement including great ACs who clearly were vital components.

Yep for this reason I'm happy just to tip into 8th spot.
It's a new season come finals. Nobody will give a *smile* after the bye that we lost to Norf a few weeks back.
if the Pies can win 11 in a row we sure as hell can win 6 or 7.
This season is very even. All about timing your run. Just keep winning.

Spot on. A team could go on a run this year in the finals. A team in the top 4 could go out in straights eg Cwood or whomever.

People are just trying to cope with the reality that the magpies are the real deal

They really could go all the way.

The belief they have cannot be bottled.

Credit to Macrae and Leppa,

The magpies play like the tigers did at their best.

Irrepressible. Watch them interact with each other, this is real unfortunately.
Exactly. As much as we all might hate to admit it, Macrae and Leppa have taken our system to the Skunks and almost every player - gawd even look at that dorky Yank - is playing far better because of it. Plus they're getting plenty out of their worst six role-players (just we did for flags).

AFL is just another time and space game, along with efficient disposal and scoring. The premiership team is the one that denies its opposition time and space, then capitalises on that through efficiency and scoring. Exactly how we succeeded, with our intense pressure, tackling, speed and turnover game. Smelbourne learnt and trained how to do this best in '21, having studied us closely, and we collapsed late last season, worn out by our own success.

Now the Skunks are perhaps doing it as well or better than anyone. Their pressure around the ball, tackling, shutting down and denying space, time and movement is really suffocating teams and forcing them into costly errors. It's like Colonwood have an extra player, always seem to outnumber the opp around the ball, win the ground-ball contests, get it going into space; mark it by playing in front or bring it to ground, repeat until someone can score - with some good finishers.

Unlike us, umps are actually onboard for them which really helps too. They have huge belief now, their crowd is back out following them, creating affirmation so ordinary players have 'grown another leg' now.

Really hate to say or admit it, but I can't see why they can't win it. Probably only the Moggs can stop them at the G, but we all know how prone Geesuck can be to show their age and lose heart and belief at the G in finals, under the blowtorch of a team that plays like this.

Collingwood clogged it up for the last 2 minutes. That is something we definitely can't seem to do.
No! We used to be the masters of this. Fly and Leppa have taken it all to the Skunks. And we have, for a combination of reasons - including losing assistant coaches of very high calibre - started to decline. It's understandable ... but still hard to take.

Agree with this. The finishing and preparation was our forte. We don't seem to have the same compsure and I reckon it's the depth of our assistant coaches.

McRae really makes it hard to hate the pies. I feel like needing a shower everytime I watch them play now. You can see why the players would want to play for him.

Pies are insane. They've won their last 6 games by a combined 35 points. 9 of their last 10 have been by 11 points or less. If it was the other way around they'd be 16th. Game of inches. I doubt there's been a close run of wins like that before.

If they had a lost a couple of close games they would be sitting next to us.
But now they are running on excitement and belief.
People forget they were 5 goals up against Geelong.
They have every chance to win it.
MCG all finals
Good luck Sydney, Freo & Brisbane.
They will make the preliminary final.
I reckon if they win that, they will win the flag.

Could've kept McCrae and let Kingsley walk.
The money that Dimma took at the expense of others now seems a poor decision to ask for so much.
Your right, I've got the same feeling that in same way we have helped Collingwood get out of the crap they were in 2 yrs ago.

But you still need some luck. :ROFLMAO:

On a serious note it’s so wide open this year. For us to make the 8 and then do some damage we can’t afford any injuries. We just don’t have the depth.

Collingwood won't go in straight sets.
I reckon they will go close to winning it.

Gotta say that game last night was as enjoyable to watch as an opposition supporter with zero invested interest as I've seen in ages.
The umps did a good job & the shape of the game looked great. Two teams were having an absolute arm wrestle too. Credit where it's due.

Yeh it was pretty entertaining, especially when you don’t care about the result.
The Dees butchered a lot of forward opportunities. Pickett was exposed as pretty timid. Their forward line is disfunctional, if Fritsch got injured they would be in trouble.
