The Rory obsession is way OTT. So amusing when he failed to win the BMW in spite of the incessant barracking. I reckon they just hate Cam Smith over there as, this traitor, stopped beloved Rory from taking the anniversary Open that was, of course, rightfully his. There was just one problem!

I'll defer to your better judgement on courses chosen. This Roman course looks OK but not great to me. But last night there was a sudden weather change with strong winds. They panned out to show what looked like a huge desert sandstorm not far away, but luckily blowing away from the course I think. One commentator even said it was as if they were in a desert somewhere; except it was topsoil from nearby farms.

Strange, looks like perhaps reclaimed waste area?
Looks like it’s out the back of Narre Warren.

What a finish in the Fortinet on Par 5 18th - with Willet still leading by a shot
Willet pitches his 3rd shot to barely more than a metre from hole for his chance to finish with birdie - and a comfortable win
Homa had hit his second into the bunker - then fluffs his bunker shot and is but short of green for three. But he goes and chips in for his birdie.
Then Willet misses hit putt to win and runs it past by another metre or so. And misses the one back he needed to tie it.
Amazing

Wow, I watched up until their second shots and had to turn it off rfor a work meeting!! Had forgot to check the results, crazy finish.

Willett is slowly getting better. Reckon he celebrated long and hard after his Masters win and lost his way a bit. He's a likeable player, hopefully gets back to his very best.

Yep, and in spite of all his huge wins this year, this one his biggest - ~$A6m. Incredible.

But, unfortunately, Herbie didn't quite fire up in Italy, but great to see Macca win one for the Scots ... and deny media-appointed and 'heavily barracked for' Rory.

Watching the President's Cup channel today and they replayed the tied game in South Africa with Player and Nicklaus as Captains.

Not sure I'd ever seen the scenes at the end before but it was unbelievable. Finishes square, Els and Woods play a play off and are square after three holes when the light is gone. No-one has ever considered the possibility of a draw so there are no rules written.

They come together on the green and agree they can't play anymore. Player gets on the phone to Tim Finchem with the crowd and TV cameras all around him and says they want to halve it. Then Nicklaus jumps on the phone and says the US hold the cup so they ge to keep it.
That kicks off Els and the International players who no longer want to call it off and instead want a result.

The teams break into their own groups and discuss, Player comes back and says they want to play now to which Nicklaus says it's too dark. The US players make it clear they don't want to hang around for an extra day and are leaving, so they then offer to split the Cup which is accepted.

All of this plays out live in front of the cameras. And people say the AFL is dodgy. :ROFLMAO:

Greg Norman has been uninvited to his own co-sanctioned PGA tour event. A tournament that has raised over 15 million dollars for charities.

“Sadly, after 33 consecutive years of playing in and hosting every Shootout tournament - a co-sanctioned PGA Tour event - since I founded it in 1989, this year I have been asked not to attend, Norman wrote."

The International team looks so totally and utterly underpowered, and a US victory a certainty, that they’ve gotta be a chance don’t they ? Prince of Penzance ? :ROFLMAO:

PoP won one race/match, not a whole carnival of them. Expecting an absolutely embarrassing set of walkover victories. US players, who rarely lack for confidence and some of whom may have to google who their actual opponents are , with their home-crowd really 'rooting' hard for them ... snowflakes' hope in hell.
As I realise, you know.

[Feel bad for the likes of Cam Davis ... but you never know, might be the making of him, back to the wall etc.]

Watching the replays of former President's Cup battles, it is surprising it has been such a lop-sided event, results wise.

Lot of talent has gone through the international team, you'd think they would have pinched a few more than one win.

Must be close to the most one-sided ongoing international competition in history.

Americans, I believe, develop a huge sense of belief, confidence, from their winner-takes-all, highly competitive society. It induces a whole sense of being a winner just from their cultural sense of believing they are the greatest nation on Earth. Stems from the fact, they probably have been since the WW1 -WW2 period, and still are - militarily and economically (although China coming fast).

In sporting terms, their intensively competitive College sports programs, with budgets as great as some AFL clubs perhaps, also makes them incredibly hardened to intensely competitive situations. No other nation has such systems at such a scale. In golf, they churn out around around ten/dozen strong players every season.

And there's all those resources (like heaps of great courses and all-year round playable in states like Florida, California etc.) and wealth.

It actually boarders on been embarrassing, 1 win in nearly 30 years .

I know the players say it’s a great honour to play but geez representing some random countries can’t be anywhere near the honour of representing your own country, plus the US have the bonus of using it as a qualifying for the Ryder cup

An already weak International team weakened further by the missing LIV players Smith, Niemann etc.

Still, I’m wondering if it isn’t all too hard bringing players together from 5 different continents. Some of the Asian players speak very limited English. It’s gotta be hard.

How bad is Adam Scott’s record in partner matches in the President’s Cup ? Geez. He’s 5-3 in individual matches but a shocking 11-19 and 6 halves in partner matches. Drove it *smile* today.
