Bowden v Vlastuin

Correct. Vlastuin should be a multiple All-Australian. Nonetheless, Bowden was a star and if one has to be chosen, it would be Vlastuin by a whisker for me.

The real outrage is all the AA gongs that Tom Stewart has. If he had played for us over the last 6 years, Rance, Grimes, Astbury and Vlastuin would all be picked and then the match committee would choose between Stewart and Broady each week.

Once Rance retired they would both be picked.

When I think of Vlas, I think tough as hell. Bowden didn't really put himself in dangerous positions...maybe that's smart. Vlas always does. How often has Vlas backed into a pack and copped a knee in the back of the head. The Dangerfield elbow/forearm. Joel didn't really put himself in these situations (that I can remember). Joel had more skill...good left shoe. But I vote Nick.

The closest we had as least in toughness to Nick Vlastuin back in the Joel Bowden days IMO was Andy Kellaway. Loved both the Kellaway boys...also tough as hell. But Nick has both of those boys covered as well.

Exactly my thinking as well.

Both different players. Bowden, clever and played further down the ground for the first half of his career. When he went back he had to play on key defenders at times and made a fine fist of it.
Vlastuin is courageous, reads the play as well as Joel, bravely stands in the hole knowing that dogs like Hawkins is coming with elbows and knees. Both very good kicks, tigger might just have the edge in that department.

I can't split them.

Duncan Kellaway braver and tougher than Andrew Kellaway.
Neither would take a backwards step

Bowden. Very underrated. If he played in a better side under better coaches, he could have been a Luke Hodge level player. Could do it all.

You've convinced me, I'm with Bowden.

Bowden better ball user and more versatile, Vlastuin better overhead mark and in one on one contest but loses marks for ill discipline at times.

That's crazy talk. Stewart is an out and out gun, would walk into any side ever.

Hes a member for NT parliament in a Darwin seat i beleive?
What party is he a member of, Ezy, do you know?
By that I suppose he no longer lives in Alice Springs, thank goodness for him!!

This is a tremendous question. No player is less appreciated in Richmond fandom than Joel Bowden. 2 X BNF, 2 X AA and should've had more.

Absolute star, and would be a five-time AA in the current climate, game suits him perfectly. Vlaustin should have at least 2 AA by now by the same token.

Incredibly hard to split. I need to think on this.

Totally different players but to me Bowdo by a nose.
His versatility gives it to him and we should also not forget that he played as a key defender at times, quite undersized.
Also could you please change the thread title so Nick’s name is spelt correctly ?
It is Vlastui

Not easy. but I'd have Bowden ahead by a whisker. Bowden one of the great underrated Tigers during our *smile* years. Flossy one of the great underrated players during our recent glory years
Yep exactly

I don’t even want to type that bloke’s name until revenge is complete

He grew up in and near Alice, but i dont think he has lived there since his playing days.

Big V by the length of the flemington straight.

Bowden was a good player but Big V is in another class.
