Movies

I saw this and was drawn to it because it had so many connections to people involved with one of my favourite movies “ In Bruges” .
I thought the movie was good and it had all the black comedy of In Bruges but more black and less comedy.
Maybe that was deliberate but I found it a little too depressing.
It was “fekkin” brilliantly acted and filmed.
Have you seen these 'Actors Roundtables', there's a few good ones out there, Colin Farrell is on this one about a month ago and all the guys were so good to listen to (y)

Yep, that’s him, cheers.
He was in all 3 movies as well as - him being Richard Bright, Al Pacino, Talia Shire, Diane Keaton, the lady who played Tom Hagen's wife Teresa Livrano and Sofia Coppola - baby at the end of I, a child on the immigrant ship to America in II and Mary Corleone in III. Not counting flashback scene's for from memory Tom Hagen and poor Fredo

Sofia Coppola in Godfather II and a couple of years earlier as a baby in I

Richard Bright played in some movie's you'd know - The Panic In Needle Park (Al Pacino), The Getaway (Steve McQueen, Al Lettieri), Marathon Man (D Hoffman), Looking for Mr Goodbar ( Diane Keaton, Richard Gere), Once Upon A Time In America (Leone, De Niro, Woods), Red heat (Arney :))).

Pretty sad ending though - struck and killed by a tour bus in Manhattan, 2006, damn being on that tour bus and going through that

That bottom photo is from outside the old Best and Co. department store on the corner of 5th Avenue and E 51st. It was torn down and is now a soulless building called the Olympic Tower.

View attachment 18127
I thought it was always the Olympic Tower? Onassi built it, Olympic AIrways had a whole floor
is it just the stores at the ground floor that left?

NBA got their offices in there :eyes

They’re all (most) on SD cards. But I did take this one from a few weeks ago. See if you can guess what scene in the Godfather this is. Tip: it’s from Godfather 1.

I tend to take a lot of old building and subway shots and inside bars and things and compare them with old photos from back in the day. Get a feel for the history.

Luv that, you been to were Sonny was shot?

1676887874529.png1676887985736.png
James Caan was wired up to a huge number of explosive blood packs, or squibs, for the scene where his character, Sonny, is gunned down.
The 147 squibs were a Hollywood record at the time, and Caan only endured the pain out of face-saving bravado.

The bullet holes in the car and the nearby toll booth were pre-drilled, then filled with explosive squibs and covered over, to be detonated in sequence.

James Caan - “What I remember most was, ‘Wow, I didn’t know I could be that frightened.’ They had bullets all over the place,” Caan said about the scene. “I had 147 squibs on my body and in my jacket. … Pretty loud squibs, too. It went all over the place, parts of my suit. It was pretty hairy, and I was very happy to be done with it.”

First edition/print of the Puzo book was 1969, I have a second edition print 1970, just as old as me man.....But worth heaps more aye

No it was the Best and Co building until the 70s before being torn down.

Yeah I think the NBA offices are in that building or next door. The NBA Flagship store is down on the corner of 44th or 45th - can’t remember which. It’s not as good as it used to be.

Nah that’s out on one of the turnpikes somewhere in Long Island or somewhere.

I have the Luca Brasi hallway and bar shooting scene where he gets strangled on one of my SD cards. I’ll have to dig it out when I can be bothered. Whole scene hasn’t changed much. Still Art Deco etc. Hotel Edison.

The hallway scene was shot at The Hotel Edison on 47th street in Manhattan, while the bar scene was shot at the Hotel St. George in Brooklyn Heights. The film noir feel of the hotel hallway is still alive and was another brilliant touch by Francis Ford Coppola.

Here's a great tidbit not ti.bit from someone who went to the bar  "In the early 80's that bar became a dive strip joint with girls in pasties using the ornate brass poles behind Bruno Tattaglia and Solozzo in the movie, as stripper poles. I was in there in 83 and it wasn't until I was looking at the poles watching the movie again that I realized it was the same poles from the St George."

Oh my, some story :ROFLMAO:

One of movie spots we went in New York was the restaurant from Serendipity, from the wife’s favourite movie by the same name, it’s on the east side of midtown from memory. Had an amazing chicken pot pie.

Is that the restaurant?

Loyal patron Jackie Onassis even asked if she could borrow the recipe for the 'Frrrozen Hot Chocolate' so she could serve it
during a party at the White House and, in 2020, Selena Gomez not only invested in the brand but became a co-owner.
