I will double down on what I have said. Needs to play Round 1. Provides much more than Soldo.

Yeash, small sample but Ryan has been terrific in the last quarter.
Apparently Samson dominated the ruck in the VFL curtain raiser:

Richmond came back firing in the third term however, kick-started by a Mansell major before Samson Ryan got in on the action with one himself.

Twenty-two-year-old Ryan was dominant in the ruck throughout the game and followed up well at ground level.

Really can't see Jack, Tom and Ryan all in the same fwd line. Defence will stream out without a worry
Why not ?

He is more mobile than Soldo , can’t Ryan play like Soldo as the backup ruck ? Bonus is he looks way more promising up forward than Soldo does.

Also at times Lynch &Jack will have a spell on the bench as well as him having stints in the ruck when Nank is off.

3 slow lumbering players in a team that is already slow across the park is asking for trouble. Add Cotch, Martin and Noah who arent going to chase and it wont be good.
Would need another 2 MRJs to run and chase.

The home of Dusty
Just some context to Ryan today.

1. He was playing in the last quarter of a 30 degree practice match when no-one gave a stuff.

2. In terms of the reserves game, on the Show Me the Money documentary when discussing the recruiting of Brodie Grundy, Melbourne list manager Tim Lamb said their ruck stocks were Max Gawn and nothing else. His words, 'literally nothing'. They then added Josh Schache to the list because he had shown promise in the ruck at VFL level for the Bulldogs. If Ryan didn't dominate that game there's be something wrong.

Positive direction sure, but don't get carried away.

Yeah if Samson isn’t careful he’ll end up over Port Phillip Bay with all the wind that’s going up his backside.

Samson has the height to be a ruckman, but at this early stage of his career he looks more suited as a forward, much the same as Paul Salmon who eventually became a good ruckman.

Played last quarter in 1sts because he already played in the 2nds match. No-one's getting carried away.

Oh East Melbourne!
If Miller is needed back then yes he is certainly in the frame for that second ruck/fwd spot..but if all things are equal - still not in the best 22 for me…..yet.

And until he learns how to kick straight he's a liability.

He has shown some great signs past few weeks on the back of a very solid VFL season. At 208cm and 22 years why wouldn’t supporters be upbeat about him, as Soldo as a forward is a fail.
Miller played 2’s today, Samson will be close.
