The club will go through the process and appoint who they believe is the best candidate for the job regardless of them being untried or recycled.

Personally, I'm backing Benny, Balmy and co to make the right decision.

Yeah, was Craig MaCrae better placed to take over a team cos he hadnt coached than say Leppa, just cos he has?
Would MaCrae (eg) not be as good a coach now if he had of been given a job when he was 35 and "failed"?

There is a lot to factor in when choosing a choose, and ruling people in or out cos they have coached before is not helpful.

I reckon the sausage analogy best summed up his departure. We had seen some really low energy performances this year which was rare for a Hardwick coached team. His message was no longer cutting through. Nothing wrong with that, it’s just evolution of a coach. He had reached his conclusion with Richmond and it was time to move on. I don’t think he is cooked as a coach. 3 months off, he will be ready to go again unless he lands some solid media roles.

Absolutely Ghoster. Dimma is burnt-out, and yeah that's partially due to things not coming together over the last few seasons. Like I always say - a decade is the productive limit for a coach at a club, and Dimma got his last flag on the cusp of that decade. A bit of luck and maybe we could have squeezed one more, but it wasn't to be.

Dimma sure has come a long way since being characterised as a figure of ineptness and ridicule as late as 2017 by some, but he's not superhuman. He'll coach next year but he'll take time off this year, he'll consider his options, and he'll probably take a club somewhere warmer than Melbourne. And he'll do well with whatever setup they have.

The expectations at the club were huge and create their own pressure
then there was the talk of not enough support from the Board
enough he walked

The Hardwick situation is different in that we have no reason to believe he dosen't has the full support of the Club
but the head coach of any club comes with pressure , make that a large melb club ie( Blues , Pies , Tigers , Bombers ) crank that pressure

our inconsistent performances , older players (who he would have strong connections with ) on the decline , young players largely not stepping up or getting injured
the media vultures circling , end of an era ....

If he continued for the remainder of the season things could have become toxic and total burnout might have happened

Yep, a man like Damien Hardwick does not bail out just because things are too hard, or because he sees brighter opportunities elsewhere.

He stopped because he'd given absolutely everything he had, and because he could see he couldn't improve us any further.
