Andrew 'Mini' McQualter

Mini is the same age as Dimma when he started coaching us - 36. Mini has had more experience than Dimma had at that time. Dimma had been an assistant at he the Hawks for 4 years including the 2008 flag. Mini has experienced coaching our VFL side plus 3 flags. He’s ready.

Mini hasn't coached our VFL team has he Moley?

No, which could be the red cross in his chances, but neither did Nicks who started off shaky and team has now blossomed.

Fages only coached Sandy Bay before entering AFL.

Let's see how he goes if he's his own man coaching wise tactics and changing personal.

He and Noble are ones that came from Football Director roles.
Noble was a disaster of course. You’d have to say Fagan is a success so far, or at least not a failure.

No sorry he hasn’t. He played for them early days and was a development coach. He certainly has done a great apprenticeship.
He’s been at Richmond since 2014.
Are they tired of his messaging before he even gets going?
A fresh voice and eyes may have an advantage over same same.
Is he the Luke Meehan of coaching?

There are a number of assistant coaches who seem to be well regarded
Josh Carr, Ash Hansen, Jaymie Graham, Adam Yze as examples
I assume McQualter is seen in that company

Didn’t Lyon try to get him to the Saints?

Highly regarded by Ross the Boss.

Spoke well I thought today and mentioned the above , but said he was contracted and was never going to leave. Loves the place, loves the players.

We will see Sunday I guess, but even if he fails first up he has the rest of the year.

That’s the beauty in roadtesting him, be great if you could do it with all candidates

I'm quietly confident we might get a lift from Mini, although it may not be immediate. Perhaps over next 5/6 matches. I reckon he has some tweaks to the 'system' in mind. Time will tell.

Poor selections leaving out Sonz & Cumbo
Good luck Mini your gonna need it against Port
I'd like to see Cumbo in ... at least as sub for two reasons: he is a true forward (unlike others we are trying to turn into forwards although Mansell is far from hopeless) and I believe at this stage, he is a real burst player, like a lot of forward flankers in their early days. Clark is also a flanker who will bob up in flashes, but Cumbo is a bigger, stronger and more explosive unit. He can kick those break-through goals from sheer aggression - a bit like Dusty - whereas Clark is always going to be more of an outside player IMO.

Still not seeing Sonz as making enough impact at senior level. He has his fans but really not convinced the hype is justified as yet. The Young selection was obviously made due to Vlastuin's injury issue - now justified as he's out. And suspect Miller will play forward to support JR8 from the constant outnumbering by a gang of tall back spoilers.

The gaps are never having control of his own team and he's only experienced RFC coaching environment.

A couple of decent experiences that would benefit him.

Saying that, Leysy has no doubt the club would love a succession from within.

i.e. If Kingsley missed out on the GWS job and was still with us, there's little doubt he would only need rubber stamped to take over.
