Matildas

Mary Fowler’s goal last night..A babe with a deadly boot!

She's got that natural ability to know how that ball needs to travel to reach the back of the net, and she's got both feet that can pull it off. If she keeps improving like she is, it won't be long before she overtakes Harry Kewell as Australia's best left winger ever.

Though Channel 10 need to keep the camera on her after she scores instead of cutting away to her NRL playing bloke.

Fowler is a joy to watch. She's going to be a star.

at the same age, Kerr had 3 Matildas goals. Fowler has 13.

great to see sellouts in Perth and good TV ratings. Hopefully they can build on the WWC legacy.

If the Belgium/Netherlands 2027 WWC bid gets up, i think would rather do that than go to 2026 or 2030. The mens is getting harder and harder logistically (and financially) by the day.

at 10am yesterday, Football Australia announced Australia's leg of the playoff against Uzbekistan would be played at Marvel stadium on February 28. pre-sale tickets went on sale at midday. by 5pm 25,000 tix had been sold (with 2 hours notice). The Matildas are a far bigger attraction that the Socceroos right now.

I got a couple- but its nonsense that tickets go on sale 2 hours after the game was announced.

doesnt give much of a chance to make plans if needed.

but great the Matildas will be back in Melbourne, in front of what should be another 50k+ crowd.

Looks like no Sam Kerr for the Olympics (assuming we make it), after she did her ACL at training with Chelsea.

For some reason this seems a taboo subject in women's sport but it's a real issue that's not going away.
There is no solution except if women simply stop playing the high risk sports. Not convinced the rate of women ACL's is way higher than men as they make out - how can you state such a large range. LARS might need a comeback.

Very disappointing for Sam and Australia. Google provides a few theories for why females are more likely to suffer knee injuries. The female pelvis is wider, which changes the angle of the thigh bone into the knee joint and the mechanics of how the thigh bone, tibia, and knee joint functions.

Stepdaughter at the game. She's in a $15 seat described as 'restricted view'. Hasn't seen any of the 7 goals so far. D'oh!
