Welcome Tom Brown

I did, but at least on the wing, he should be able to kick to advantage better than off half back. He is an experienced AFL player and former B&F winner after all.

Plus running ability and especially speed are keys on a wing. I’ve never thought of him as a particularly good defender at half back, more ball user (granted - he’s been poor this year). He needs something and we need something.
Yeah, I don't disagree. I've wanted him on the wing for a while now too.

over half of his possessions were contested (10) possessions. his defensive ability and intercept marking also were features of his game today. Improving with every game, lots to like

He’s never been a great defender I reckon, even in the premiership years. But up until now, his ball use has been elite.

Agree - shocking this year. Pickett’s all over the place season on the wing is doing my head in, so maybe Short can fix that.

Simply cannot be replaced by Grimes when he is available.

How promising is this kid? I would have been excited had he had that performance 30 games into his career.

He's played 4 games.

Halfway through the 2nd quarter there were a lot of middle-aged white men with Brown boners.

I would hate any of the defenders to make way for Grimes. He's a Richmond stalwart but passed his best and we would be better with Miller, Young and Brown for the future

Where are the 100s of brown haters now ,are u relizing that when 3 clubs ,Geelong Sydney Melbourne all wanted him, then he must be a very talented player ,and understand that u part time watchers don't know has much has the experts who do this for a living.

Obviously been told to drill the *smile* out of that leather, consequences be damned.

Elite coaching at Richmond. Elite coaching that fosters confidence. 2024 isn’t about win/loss but building belief.

Reckon this boy knows he belongs.
Yep. Yze knows who our attacking weapons are as has given the full licence. Brown, Campbell, MRJ.

You don’t pull a kick like Brown did in that 2nd quarter without licence from the coach. Especially in just your fourth game.

I went to Arden St a year or more ago to have a look at Brown, among others.

I know for a fact that Eddie Ford is not an AFL player but he is *smile* strong overhead. Brown was well below Ford in the air. Our man NFI. A cipher.

Fast forward 14 months. Our man had no trouble working Membury under the ball. And another I can't remember. Quite the aerialist. Smarts off the scale. Ball use?

I hate the Van Rooyen Comparisons and its really stupid as its clear that both players will play 200 games and selecting either we would have been happy.

I believe i posted at the time when alot of people were melting we left JVR on the table that if Sydney & Cats were into this boy as well as Richmond then he clearly is talented and our club has rated him higher in talent so we should trust them.

Tom Brown was excellent. against St kilda but still has massive upside specially with his fitness as Ceaser mentioned in his pre season training reports and will be a very special player in 2 years time and maybe the Tom Stewart comparisons were not wrong

The question was always about whether we needed to be recruiting key position forwards, and I reckon the answer to that question is obvious.

Brown is looking great, which I don't think anyone is not celebrating. But the fact remains, without hindsight, there was more than a case to prioritise a key forward and even with hindsight we have a clear need for key forwards.

I am chuffed that Brown is looking good and love the fact that his disposal is excellent, we certainly need that. But it remains the case that we took Brown in favour of recruiting for a position where we need help.

I think our ladder position this year will easily allow us to pick up a decent key position player. Most of the current best key forwards were taken with low picks - under 20 at least. We got Jack at pick 13 going back.

To trade for one, outside of free agency (and there aren’t any there), costs far too much - both in draft picks and in salary. I’d love Oscar Allen, but that isn’t going to happen.

Who knows with Fawcett, but we need to draft more of that type and see what transpires.

What’s done is done now but at least we have a gun half back for 10 years.
