Round 5: the hair clogged shower drain games.

I suppose the GoDeez now get a 3 day extra break over us. Brilliant fixturing!!!

Lock in Petty to kick 8 against us.
Against us Petty is worth 2 1st rounders
Against anyone else a 4th rounder would do.
I never understood why Adelaide were soo keen on him besides the game against us he has been a Ben Miller/ Tyler Young type.
I don't see North offering 6yr 700k deals

Stop Gawn you half way to beating Melbourne
43000 that's what we got against Sydney.
I did Hear BT mention the small crowd several times. The top decks were empty.

Get rid of these bs Thursday night games. No-one there at the G. Another AholeFL failure...
Thought the same, yet the media still spin it as positive, the 43K they got there last night is the biggest H&A crowd for a game between the two clubs. Sounds impressive until you think about where and when they’ve probably played each other in the past, as well as the relative positions of the clubs at the time, and the fact that Brisbane, despite their protests about being ghost of Fitzroy, are a QLD club that don’t have a lot of support down here and Melbourne have also never enjoyed much support since their halcyon VFL days. Ideal game to schedule in the Sunday twilight graveyard, and make it one of the Dees ‘home games’ at Marvel.

Get this through your head, dude… The AFL don’t care about crowd numbers. Thursday night footy is a TV event. They wouldn’t give a flying F if 5,000 rocked up last night.

I didn’t watch much of last nights game. But I did watch Jon Ralph talk at half time. And he claimed that there will be no more Thursday night games after R15 this year. You should have seen his demeanour… he was sulking that badly he looked like he was on the verge of tears.

The AFL media propaganda machine is alive and well.

To me, what the crowd number was last night is irrelevant. Do you know why? Because if this game is played on Saturday afternoon, the crowd would have been significantly better. 40-50%.

A cold April Thursday night doesn’t compare with a mild 20 degree Saturday afternoon. Especially when there are no other Saturday arvo games in Melbourne this weekend.

Didn't watch much of it but early on they were talking up rivalry. Kept mentioning the 2022 semi final which of course only happened because of the ARC stuff up

If you look at the scheduling its all about tv audience
Games dont clash anymore when 1 game ends the other game begins apart from some Saturday night games

Dees bleating 3 games in thirteen days to much. Tigers after 5 games been to Gold Coast Adelaide & now Perth. Tigers had a 5 day & a 10 day break. No wonder so many players are on he injury list throughout he league. You would think Players Association would raise this but led by a Yes man.

Not sure I've seen a bloke with a more inflated public opinion.

Is not a pinch on Balta. If Petty is worth two first-rounders, I'll eat my hat. Still can't believe Melbourne knocked that back from the Crows last year.

And crowd talk is crazy, 43k was a record home and away crowd between these teams. It was a success.

The crowd was definitely assisted by it being held on school holidays. Hold this game next week and I'd be curious to see how different it is.

And if Petty tears it up against us, I'll *smile* spew.

Melbourne should have taken that deal and ran. I suspect Crows deal will be diluted this year. Although they are looking very impatient with their list build. Already flagged their 1st rounder this year is on the table. Thats looking like a top 5-8 pick.

I’ve said this on numerous occasions, but if you reduce quarters to 18 minutes and half time to 12 minutes, you would cut the match running time by about 25 minutes. This would allow you to play all 9 games without any overlap and without the need to play games on Thursday night.

Yeah but Toorak are in the here and now at the moment. 1 hour to midnight on the premiership clock. And one of the biggest weaknesses or issues that might prevent them from succeeding, is the lack of strong KPF’s and subsequently, their inability to kick a score with them.

They trade Petty and that issue gets worse and their chance of converting a premiership becomes almost nil. That’s why they didn’t trade Petty.

Petty may well be overrated, but that’s another story all together. For now, Toorak need him up front. There’s nobody else that’s productive enough to play alongside Van Hoogenband.

Vanden Hoogenband has been pretty ordinary as well lately but he is still young. Dropped a few sodas early last night. I didn't eatch after halftime
My feeling is that he will be a good player but not an exceptional one, not sure he will be winning any Colemans
We will see
The Dees rely enormously on their engine room in Gawn, Petracca, Oliver and Viney as well as the intercept marking of May and Lever. If you negate the engine room and make May and Lever accountable they struggle. Brisbane has a similar structure but what they have are better key forwards and then a number of good small forwards in Cameron, Bailey, McCarthy and Raynor. The Dees don't have that number of forward options.

That sounds like a very short step to the T20 version of football.
