Re: PRE Player of the Year-Rd 1 votes vs Carlton

1 Mitch Morton - he shows promise if he ever decides to chase and defend
2 Matthew White - he was not that great but better than most
3 Cousins - for no other reason than I am his special vice pres and he did actually get a kick to one of our own

Special mention to Richo - he tried his guts out and was far from the worst out there.

3 Mitch Morton
2 Matthew White
1 Matthew Richardson, at least you know he bleeds black & yellow.

Thought Simmonds was ordinary, Raines clueless, McMahon gutless and the rest outplayed.

3 - Morton (Was laughing all night about people posting on here he can't mark above his head, he is soft, etc etc)

2 - McGuane (We may have been looking at another 4 or 5 goals added to Carlton's score without him, played his guts out and smart)

1 - Foley (Looked proppy early, felt he was struggling on ankle. Really showed he has passion for the club and worked his way into the game)

I'm staggered some on here have given Tambling, Simmo or Lids (who I all like so not potting them) votes as they were atrocious at times and ordinary at their best.

Tambling looked lost and hesitant, Simmo was beaten all night save for some float back and mark in defence easy plays and Lids was well and truly taken out of the game for the most part by Carlton and even did some uncharacteristic sloppy decision making due to the intense pressure.

McMahon was the worst player by a mile. At the ground and watching him off camera the positions he ran to and way he shirked contests was disgusting.

Sorry DD you criticise people for giving Bling votes but you have the audacity to give votes to McGuane?!

Yep gree, I think Carlton would have scored 4 or 5 LESS goals if McGuane wasn't playing. Was sure he was planted in the Richmond side as the mole (along with probably 11 or 12 other Tiger players).

From where I was sitting, McGuane was in our best and Tambling was definitely not.

No need to apologise WT, I'm big and ugly enough to take hit.

As far as having audacity? All about perspective I guess.

If you want to look at stats, Bling wins. If you want to look at who was actually effective McGuane had it all over Bling.

McGuane is not pretty and he butchers the ball, but he beat plenty of forward 50 entries and beat his opponent. Even sucking him in to give away 50m. He was constantly in the thick of the action and under far more pressure than most of the players where it is magnified most, the forward 50 for the opposition. He made some mistakes, sure as always, he is raw and untidy. Yet with the amount of ball coming in thick and fast he held his head high and worked his ass off. He didn't just get points for trying though, he was effective. It's easy to concentrate on his stuff ups but he was in the heat of it more than any player and his positives in a zone we got creamed in far outweighed his mistakes.

Yet he beat plenty of attacks and showed some fire and aggression in a side that was insipid and submissive.

Tambling drove the ball inside 50, especially if you look at the stats. yet when he did it, he was hesitant, allowed players to run back and fill holes/man up while he decided where to kick and basically was a lot more ineffective than he might have looked on a highlight reel or on TV.

I've copped flack for being a Tambling fan, so I am comfortable in saying it was a ordinary game for him. Tambling is capable of so much more but he was played out of position in a role that does not suit him and magnified his current weaknesses. Story of the night for so many!

I'm sorry you find that audacious. ;)

2 and 1 for effort, to be honest, neither deserve votes but at least heeded kennedy's advice to "do something......"

PS: Not sure why people are commenting on who votes for who, theres plenty of threads to dispute players output in the team, but IMHO this thread is about PREnders voting who they think were the 3 best players...

I almost posted about this earlier. We want a general view of PREnders best players for each match. Votes shouldn't be subject to ridicule whereby other voters may feel they need to justify voting for such players. If you disagree with votes dished out by others, don't worry, the system ensures that the most deserving players in the eyes of PREnders will end up with the most votes. If a player that you disagree with ends up with a significant number of votes, then perhaps it is your own view that is in the minority (not that there is anything wrong with that ;)).

As AT points out there are PLENTY of threads where you can bag out under-performing players.

Speaking for myself, apologies AT and Panthera, didn't mean to detract from the thread. I'm just used to 98% of threads on here always being about discussing each other's views (not sure ridicule is the right term though :p).

I understand where you are coming from and your point though. Fair enough. Might be a good idea to put it in the rules/guidelines or at least state such a agenda at the start of the thread though. It might be there and I missed it, if so apologies. Consider me :-X
