2021 Draft Thread

There have been many players compared to selwood , Danger etc
Its their game style but very few achieve that level at AFL

Corey Ellis was compared to Simon Black & Ben Lennon to Stevie J
Ben Lennon shouldve been compared to Jon Lennon
And Ellis was compared to liz Ellis

We should never give away picks for upgrades they never work.
Look at Melbourne and Jessie Hogan and The Parcally Cloudy Suns with Jack Martin.
No One has a form line on these kids and especially with the record we have with first rounders and i wouldnt be playing around with them.
We need to delist more and just bring in a Bus load of kids and pray one can play.
Im never excited about draft time because i just think Ellis x2, Fiora, Tambling, and the worse one in our history fken Higgins.

We have picks 7, 15, 26, 28, 40 & 44, there's the possibility of picking up 2 or 3, very good, generational players with those picks.

Keep our picks and hit the draft.

The word 'kings' should never be referred to Richmond when it comes to drafting.
We should just keep our picks.
*smile* 'helping' Footscary & Collingwood. *smile* let Collingwood go in Red.
Where not here to serve other clubs. *smile* them

I am growing to the idea of trading out our future first rounder for pick 3 (plus we may need to add a player or one of our 2nd round picks).

Matt Rendell on trade radio talking about GWS taking Mac Andrew with their first pick.

I've had him floating around in the top 8 for a while but not that high.
I wouldnt put too much faith in what Matt says. Will probably come out and say Richmond need two new Rucks added to the list

Hate to see how many times you post when you’re not excited about something
We should be silent at the draft.
We have built up our picks. keep them.
Why help Collingwood or Footscary?
This is a way to screw them off field.
Especially Footscary last year it was Urkalle Hagan and this year Darcy. how many free hits do you want them to have? Let them go in Red.
Gc is the club to go after Anderson or Holland's.
Richmond the kings of the Draft Thats like saying Stkilda the kings of September

Cant listen to him. Does my head in.
I saw him at the footy this year and i asked him why do the clubs you left hate you?. For no response.
He fits well with Sen full of cockroaches

Been some good players drafted at 15

Agree, I'd rather we keep 7 & 15.

There's been some good players drafted at 15, including, Cody Weightman, Jordan Clark, Zac Bailey, Dan Rioli, Z Jones, Brando, R Tarrant, Varcoe, L Dunn and Chaplin.

Cotchin and Martin are the only 2 players on our list we can’t get in a normal draft year.

Picks 2 and 3.

Petracca is now hitting his prime and the result speaks for itself.

Nothing is ever guaranteed of course, but those top 3 picks as mids are gold (when they’re clear-cut). Can’t get that level of quality elsewhere.

So should we trade for those types? Preferably no. Best character kids get developed from within IMO, so you don’t want to buy a disgruntled top 3 pick who could be less suited to building relationships (by virtue of wanting a trade when young). And they cost more in every way when traded.

It’s essential to draft that very elite top 3 talent yourselves and prepare their mind correctly from day one.

The next star KPP can come from a pick 13 or 18, but the next Cotchin/Martin type is more likely to be a top 3 pick, and they’re hard to get your hands on.

wonder if potential draftees will be vaccine hesitant.

If they are this will be impact their draft position for sure, infact they may remain undrafted

Sounds like a good way to rig the draft. Ie Erasmus tells all the clubs he wont get vaccinated, west coast draft him pick 60, day after he gets vaxxed

Hope we do this with some players we are hiding by the way.

Send in emails to the club
'Don't swap picks, keep our picks and especially don't help Collingwood"

From the Herald Sun, reads very similar to what we have been discussing over the last month or so.

RICHMOND

INDICATIVE DRAFT PICKS: 7, 16, 26, 28, 40, 44, 80, 98

WHAT DID THEY DO IN THE FIRST AND SECOND ROUNDS OF THE DRAFT LAST YEAR?

The Tigers were not a big player in the 2020 draft, opting to trade their first-round pick to Geelong in exchange for the Cats’ first-round pick this year.

They picked up Brisbane Academy member and 206cm ruckman Samson Ryan with their second-round selection at pick 40 after the Lions chose not to match a bid.

WHO’S IN THE MIX THIS YEAR?

Unlike last year, the Tigers have indicated their intention is to hold onto their two first-round picks.

They will have a plethora of options in a draft which is heavy in quality midfielders at the top of the order.

Players like tough Greater Western Victoria Rebels midfielder Ben Hobbs and silky Sandringham Dragons onballer Finn Callaghan could be in the mix at pick 7.

The Tigers have also picked up a lot of players from the Northern Knights in recent years and would have a close eye on Josh Ward.

Highly-rated Rebels key defender Josh Gibcus is another player who could come into calculations as the Tigers look to life beyond the retired David Astbury and the ageing Dylan Grimes.

He is not a top-end pick but the Tigers also have access to Bendigo Pioneers midfielder-forward Nyawi Moore, who is eligible to join Essendon as a father-son where his dad Nathan Lovett-Murray played 145 games.

Along with the Bombers link, Moore is a member of Richmond’s Next Generation Academy.

Kids are hungry to play. Kids will want to get vaccinated to have life in front of them.
Without vaccination you wont be allowed out of your street in 12 months let alone play with a sporting club.

A fair point.

Bailey Smith, Hunter Clarke, Hopper, Aish, Wines, Haynes, Caddy, Sheppard, Rich, Joel Selwood, Jordan Lewis and Mackie were all drafted at pick 7.

There's the the chance of getting a very good player if we were to trade up to pick 2 or 3, a very good player is not guaranteed though.

I'd rather keep the four, 1st & 2nd round picks, where there's the possibility of getting 2 or 3 very good players.
