2021 List

This may have been already discussed on another thread. how does the long term injury list work for 2021? Soldo did his knee on Sept. 11, 2020... not sure how long after that he had surgery... but 12 months of rehab. (especially for a big bloke) after the date of surgery; would see him out for the entire '21 season (GF presumably will be last Saturday in September, 2021). so im presuming we can pick-up an extra player somewhere down the line to cover Soldo whilst he is on the long term injury list?
Not sure the LTIL still exists. Aren't rookies allowed to be selected for senior games at any time now?

This was in an afl article today.

"Clubs also have the option of moving a player with a long-term injury to the inactive list to open up further positions for the SSP or Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

Essendon's Irving Mosquito, Hawthorn's James Sicily and Bulldog Toby McLean are all expected to miss the bulk of 2021 after ACL injuries in 2020 with their spots able to be used for another player."

So yes, I believe we can. Maybe that was also part of the reason why we drafted Ryan. We can then move Soldo to the inactive list for 2021 and then bring another player in (3 spots available then) in the Supplementary period or mid season draft. I wonder if we hadn't seen enough of certain players (whether mids or talls and maybe we will ask several to come down and train with us, we have to pay them $1000 / week until we sign them so interesting how many we have train with us, apparently can't train with us until 6th Jan).

From the HS:

"Delisted Tiger Derek Eggmolesse-Smith will audition for a return to Richmond after being among 16 players given permission to train at clubs from early next year.

Eggmolesse-Smith played six games in 2020 but was a surprising casualty of cuts to list sizes and could earn another opportunity as the Tigers seek to fill their two vacant list spots.

Richmond has also asked two South Australians, West Adelaide midfielder Nick Couroupis and Woodville-West Torrens defender Rhyan Mansell, as well as Josh Green – the brother of GWS youngster Tom Green – to train from January 6.

Clubs can add players from that date during the Supplementary Selection Period, ending March 9, or via the mid-season draft on June 2."

Not sure why we only have two spots available. 36 senior + 4 rookie A + 1 rookie B = 41, out of 44 max. Maybe salary cap space only allows for two more?

The 3rd has to be a Cat B rookie. None of the players stated qualifies to be Cat B.

Take Green if we can just makes it easier to get his brother over later....simples :)).

Mansell might be a goer as a harder small defender also.

Might yet be another spot open up if Stackman gets the arse.

Just after a bit of clarity from those in the know.... if Syd was to be let go at this stage, are we definitely permitted to pick up another rookie?

As far as I am aware, there is still no announcement by the club about a new contract for Houli. What the heck is going on?. Surely signing him up for one more year can't be that difficult.

I believe he stays on our list, but we can move him to the inactive list and then we would be eligible to draft another rookie if we wanted to.

I'm sure it is just that is hasn't been announced with any fanfare, Glenn.

I'm pretty sure you can't actually be out of contract at the final list lodgement before the draft unless you are delisted and then have to nominate for the draft to be added to any list after that. None of that has happened so he must have signed a new deal.
I thought he'd confirmed a 1 yr deal but the Clubs not published it etc. You are right you can't be uncontracted this time of yr. if you are ur not on a list at all.

With Soldo out till late next year, Mate Colina not arriving until April, CCJ & Stack suspended until round 5ish, Cumberland with a slow build and a reduced list size we are a couple of preseason injuries away from some of the babies playing early in the year. Definitely think we have a slow state and build again. Will be fascinating to see some mix of Dow, RCD, Ross, Naish, Chol and Co trying to cement spots for the end of year charge. Spots will be there for the taking.

Throw Martyn in there too, reckon he's rated highly by the coaches.
