2026 Draft Thread

Yeah he's a tough, smart little bugger who knows how to win the footy and loves a tackle.

Only ? mark. Just not sure about how damaging he is? Never really seen him have much depth to his kicking and even then it is a bit so-so.

Suspect it might mean he'll end up in that next batch outside the very top tier.

Interesting watch though.
There’s some stuff of him going around where he drops it in for a goal outside 50. I’ll see if I can find it.

Side topic - But is Grlj as quick as we originally thought. Agile sure. But straight line speed - not sure he is. Could be fatigue for a first year player slowing him up at times maybe. Or not watching hard enough when someone knocks Leysy's beer over again.
Well he is only the third fastest kid we drafted last year behind Burton & NRT- though they all finished top 10 in the 20 m and all ran sub 3's but he was the only one who also ran a sub 6 2k which placed him second over all. Funnily enough wasn't top 10 in agility though NRT was.

Don't get too caught up in combine results on a basketball court young Steely.

The endurance one is probably the exception. Though there are better examples in club land for that i.e. Bronco etc.

Yeah I wanted Robey too, no need to spin it.

Not sure we can write off Smillie yet. It's pretty sad what's happening to him, but don't think he's finished.
Gibcus is a concern though, multiple knees, hamstrings. He seems cursed. I hope we can fix him, but it seems he's got a long way to get back.
Oh didnt you know his leg was amputated ?
Thats what im getting from the posts on the forums about Smillie

This injury will be resolved, and the kid will play and show why he was drafted , I am 60 years old and genuinely cannot remember a player having this injury or if they have it was not a player that had such a big growth spurt at his age

Robey wasn't even in our calculations irrespective of Smillie. You linking Smillie and Robey in any way is just something you have pulled out of the air from nothingness.

Smillie was recruited as a midfielder, he is still on our list and working through some tough setbacks, and most certainly in our plans. All young midfielder on the list would be in our plans until they are not. Smillie was a high draft pick because of what he showed as a junior, there is no reason he will not recover and then play AFL for us to judge what he has got.
And i might add that Grilj eventually be part of the Mid group.

Just thinking,if we don't get big Hats with our early pick ,there might be another Ruck worth looking at with a later pick.
Jackson OBrien from the Rebels 205cm ex basketball convert ,he's really athletic, great leap,,he keeps on improving ,and is in the Vic Country team .

Still hope we get Big Hats, but can't see the bombers passing on him ..

I get it's on a basketball court, but it's indicative of their position amongst their peers. They all run on the same surface (have to be invited of course). So at least it's a solid baseline to compare against each other.

What about if someone is wearing Drofder 3000's and the other schleps are wearing basic Adidas or Nike gumboots ?

Huge advantage. Huge General Zhukov.

Same could happen on grass.

Agree it can be indicative depending on the test.

But it certainly isn't gospel when transferred to the heat of a football field, with opponents and a football involved. However they seem to be taken like that.

Said a thousand times, outside the endurance stuff, the results and impact of them on player rankings, are over played on forums.

So you’ve never seen it before but you’re confident the issue will be resolved.

Toxic positivity. Every one has a right to be logically concerned about his future because it’s never been seen before.

I can flip that on its head and say you've not seen the medical reports, how do you know it won't get resolved?

Toxic Negativity.

Truth is, we'd be lucky if 1 person, Let alone more than 1, knows the actual details on PRE for any player. Everyone's making opinions and assumptions without the real facts.
It's much easier to say stuff won't end up working, because the spectrum of "good" and not good isn't balanced evenly.

Never seen before but sure he will come through and play. Everything will be fine.

The spectrum of good is miles ahead on PRE, sniffing flowers galore is the norm.

Yes the concept of supporters wanting to be positive and indeed supportive is a really weird notion, so hard to understand.

God forbid people not want to wallow in negativity, especially when we're essentially powerless with no actual inside info.

Yeah I watched that last night. Interesting. You may not agree with all of his reference points or comparisons, but the decision or evaluation of Ark Up v Noah was interesting. Two different styles. Rayner (his reference) style v Brayshaw (his reference) or Chimp sort of style of game. Which would you prefer ?

Putting Van Heusen and all others aside for a moment, who would people go for at this early, pre Championships stage: Arki or Noah ?

Having Lalor and Hotton in the side - I would say a Williams/Brayshaw type would be more of a need especially if Hopper leaves and Taranto spends more time forward. Although, by all reports - we were looking to pair up Lalor and H Reid recently so Arki could potentially be that option.
