Thanks Boss, that's interetsing.
If we weeded through all the *smile* posted on this board we'd find a good history lesson of the RFC hidden in there somewhere.

Lambert left as he was disillusioned with the club. He wanted to go to carlton but a suitable trade could not be offered. Incidentally carlton offered us there captain, Brett Ratten, who was a back pocket battler in those days and we refused. He ended up going in teh preseason draft and picked up by Brisbane, we got nothing for him which was very disappointing.

Boss, I seem to remember something (maybe it was a rumour, can't remember) about the club then thinking that with Knighter, Freezer and Lambert our midfield stocks were pretty good and we could afford to offload one of them to get another type of player. Any truth in that?

No definately not true MT. He left at the end of 1993 and in that Draft we picked up Broderick, Gale and Dundas in the trade for Hogg. He didn't see any future at the club and his footy was stale at Richmond and he needed a change. Ironically 2 years later we played in the prelim final (& as Harry will remind you got thrashed by Geelong!!!).

I think on a mathematical POV, I proved my point that Beck has done a crap job. I tried to disregard the number at which they were taken and if they were a trade, national or preseason, only worried about there output for the RFC.

On Lambert, the story I heard was that he wanted to go to Geelong , they offered up a young half back named Michael Mansfield which we declined. Thus Lambert went to Brissie for free

I make Becks strike rate 28% The history to be learnt is clean out all the dead wood 12 to 15 players 1recruiting manager 1 coach find a coach who can nurture kids Go to the bottom of the ladder and draft the best kids available over the next 3 to 5 years if we do this we can build anew dynasty out of Becks ruins

i am a supporter of putting the age up to around 19 or maybe 20 before you can be picked up by a club.
atm its to much of a lottery with clubs spending money on young players who turnout to be not quite up to it as the years go on.[pettifer perfect example].
and the visa versa happens as well.a kid is ignored in the draft and is lost in the system and ends up on the scrap heap.
at least at the age of 19-20 clubs will more or less have a much better idea of what they are getting.

* Playing for another club
** Was mature when we got him back and played regularly when on the lest. Still was crap though!
*** Was a regular before injury cut him down.
**** Is getting a senior game but isn't really commanding it!

Not really fair on Schulz and Sipthorpe at this stage. Still are only young!

According to my calculations, this is a 42% success rate (23/54)
