Box Hill vs Coburg

Gilmour -  fantastic. Lots of penetration on his kicks. A gun.
Raines -  very impressive. Has bulked up a bit. Easy to pick because he's a dead set clone of his old man. Also a penetrating kick.
Dragicevic - ball magnet. Seems totally over his knee.
Rodan - had a good game. Lots of disposals.
Roach - ditto.
Fiora - also good. Great goal in 3rd quarter. Pinpoint disposal all day in windy conditions.
Marsh - best big man on the ground.
Foley - not a lot of game time. Knows where to be to get the ball.
Jackson - stuck to his task on Nick Holland. Was towelled up in the end. Holland had a big final quarter.
Houlihan - Did some classy things. Looks comfortable at VFL level.
Hartigan - was pretty good. Disposal much better than it is when he plays at Richmond.

A big positive I took out of the game is that our Richmond youngsters all look good prospects.
A worry for Hawthorn would be that Holland and Barker stood out for Box Hill, but who cares.

Does anyone know who #24 was who played for us yesterday, he did a few nice things & looked like he was a reasonable size for a winger.

It was mixed emotions for the Coburg Tigers in their clash against the Box Hill Hawks at City Oval, Box Hill on Sunday. In near perfect conditions a crowd in excess of 1200 saw a youthful Coburg senior team demolish the Hawks. Arguably it was the Burgers best performance for the year.

RESERVES

The reserves suffered another disappointing loss on Sunday to a dominant Box Hill side. Coburg dominated the first quarter leading by 4 points at the break, however a 6 goal second term from 16 scoring shots by the Hawks set up their second half leading by 17 points at half time. With Coburg not scoring in the third term and the Hawks scoring a further 5 goals, a final quarter comeback was looking even more distant as a further 6 goals in the final term sealed the win for the Box Hill hawks.

Tiger Billy Nicholls returned from injury through the reserves and was solid in the midfield for the first half. Troy Legudi was a focal target up forward finishing with 3 goals, whilst Jay Cheep and Sean Bourke teamed up strongly through the midfield. Ken Darby played a lone hand in defense with the silky skills of Alex Isailovic giving him the best on ground honors.

Despite the loss, the side has managed to maintain 7th position on the ladder as they prepare to take on last placed Springvale this Sunday the 18th July.

SENIORS

Senior coach David Flood has stated that Sundays win against the Box Hill Hawks was one of the sides best performances for the 2004 season.

A youthful Coburg Tigers team consisting of Roach, Raines, Gilmour, Rodan and Jackson completely outplayed the Hawks on Sunday signifying the sides potential in the race for the finals. A 6 goal first term set up the sides assault on the game and with a further 6 goals in the second quarter a second half comeback by the Box Hill Hawks seemed highly unlikely. The second half equaled that of the first with the Burgers winning by 65 points.

Struggling for a dominant forward all year, young tiger Alex Gilmour was brilliant up forward finishing with a 7-goal haul in a best on ground performance. It was the Burgers young brigade that dominated Sundays match with young tigers Tommy Roach, David Rodan, Andrew Raines and Brent Hartigan providing the side with plenty of run all over the ground. Daniel Jackson was again amongst the sides best players and courageous captain Leigh Carlson worked tirelessly all day.

There was no evidence of a weak link in an awesome display of football by the Burgers. The win will give the side plenty of confidence in their preparation to take on Springvale this weekend.

Our Next Game is against Springvale at the Shepley Oval this Sunday the 18th of July.
Reserves: 11:10am
Seniors: 2:00pm
