I believe that this sort of action is counter productive. The quote was "We've asked nicely, we've tried all the petitions, we've tried all the one-day marches and so now we're here engaging in civil resistance."

In reality this sort of action actually hurts their cause but I can't see how they are hypocrites

Quite simply because all of these activists have all spent their entire lives benefiting from all the advantages and privileges that developed from the mining and fossil fuel industries that underpin manufacturing, science, health and everything else in the modern world. Even to this very day they're all still benefiting from it in every aspect of their existence. Yet they prance up and down the street disrupting other peoples lives with self righteous feel good tripe about saving the planet. I've never yet seen one of these save the planet activists running around the exhibition gardens in their bare arses trying to poke a possum with a pointy stick so they can have lunch. They're all to happy to feel good n seem to be, by screaming n chanting n buggering up other peoples right to conduct their lives while enjoying all the trappings of exactly what they're protesting against. Nothing but self indulgent HYPOCRITES.

One of the most laughable aspects of these bleating fools is that with a world population of approx 8 billion people of which probably 2 to 2.5 billion live with the bonus and advantage of being at the front of the developed queue. There still another 5.5 to 6 billion people who would like to somehow move forward and join up with the advantaged. Even if the haves prune back their so called evil and destructive ways there's still gunna be a tidal wave of developing countries with ever increasing needs for fuels and minerals that will swamp whatever reductions that are made. Which relegates all the hype n hysteria to not much more than meaningless crap.

My experience with Melbourne weather is that it’s crap (it’s largely either cold, wet, cloudy or windy or a combination of) from about mid to late April to late November. it feels like our summers get shorter. I’d love to enjoy more sun like other parts of Australia get but I’d have to get a divorce to do so.

Its an interesting cultural norm there are no qualifications required to bring a new life into the world. Definitely a taboo subject though.

I think we may see environmental protection terrorists form though as per what happens in ‘ministry for the future’ when we hit some kind of extreme event. (Passenger planes shot out of sky, ceos of airline/fossil fuels companies killed) etc. Logic will be to sacrifice a few now to save billions in the future. (Would you take a holiday to Bali by plane if you thought you and your family could be shot out of the sky? Do a face to face meeting on the other side of the country vs virtually?)

Criticizing the protesters is such a cheap shot. Plenty of us have been warning about climate change for decades. Been to the protests, signed the petitions etc and got nowhere. Now we see the impact of climate change starting to really happen, and believe me this is only the start, and the action ramps up. Still, f**ck all real action on climate change.

If peaceful protests get ignored, if the facts cannot convince the powers that be to actually do something, then you get more intrusive actions. You're lucky activists aren't blowing up pipelines . . . yet.

I often wonder if we have reached a 'choose your poison' moment. In order to wean ourselves off fossil fuels entails societal collapse. Don't wean ourselves off fossil fuels and the catastrophic climate change that goes with this also entails societal collapse.

The intense difficulty of that bind I think is what cripples anyone to do anything meaningful. Deep down, I think even many of the deniers know this, hence why their stress reaction is to go into denial as opposed to face up to the extreme double edged sword we now bare witness.
